April 30 - Vignettes on Prayer
There is so much truth in Ephesians 1, listen to what Paul writes in verse 18, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.” This is Paul will for the people of that day and this day. I love prayer and writing about it. Here are more of my thoughts on prayer. Nothing stands in the way of prayer. It overcomes any obstacle, situation, force or person. So stand behind prayer and move into victory. Prayer is the most useful tool we have in our spiritual tool belt to fix any problem area of life. No spiritual tool belt is complete without prayer, the word, the power of the Holy Spirit, evangelism and fellowship. Praise is thanking God for what He has done. So thank and praise Him with all your heart. Remember if you do not the rocks will cry out and who wants to be out praised by a stone. My prayer is that you will never have any interruptions or hindrances in your prayer life. God wants to use you to change your world through prayer.

In my life time I have written 200 Psalms, 150, Parables and 3200 proverbs. I have written thousands of sermons, articles, radio copy, commentaries, devotionals and now these vignettes on prayer. In the next few Vignettes I will share some of my proverbs and pithy saying on prayer. Prayer three times a day is the best food your soul can have. Prayer is an interesting thing. When you are about to give up the answer comes. Just shows you who is in the way. Prayer is like a photograph. Things become real clear as the picture develops. Seek God first brings divine intervention. Seeking man first leads to natural disaster. Seek God first always leads to His blessing second. Prayer is as powerful as God and since God is all powerful, nothing can stop prayer. Larry Lea said that prayer is the greatest ministry because it is what Jesus is doing now. I asked my wife Lois one time what she thought I would be remembered as. She said without hesitation a man of prayer. I think that is the greatest compliment someone could say about me. Yes I have written much, did thousands of video presentations and am a radio personality but to be known as a man of prayer this is the highest compliment a person can be given.

George Mueller said that the most important part of prayer was the fifteen minutes after he had said. “Amen.” John writes in 1 John 5:15, “And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” You got to have faith to believe. Remember faith is the substance of things hope for and the evidence of things not seen. Don’t be like Adolph Saphir who wrote. If I were to live my life over, I would spend less time in service and more time in prayer. It is good to work for the Lord but never do it at the expense of prayer. Pray first and then go out and see what God does next.

Prayer is such a wonderful tool in the toolbox of any Christian. In 1 John 5:14, John states, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” John R, Mott wrote. Prayer is the greatest force we can wield. It is the greatest talent God has given. He has given it to every Christian. What right do we have to leave unappropriated or unapplied the greatest force God has ordained for the salvation and transformation of humanity. Simply put pray and see what God can do.

Earlier in the Vignettes I shared about the first church I was saved in. One of the elders of that church was Earl Sargent. He was a welder by trade. He loved Psalm 34. His favorite verse was Psalm 34:4. He would often stand up and testify about the goodness of the Lord. The verse goes like this. “I sought the LORD, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.” An eight year boy sat on top of a load of wood in a wagon. The wagon was drawn by two horses which ran swiftly down a steep hill. After the frightening ordeal, the child’s mother as him, “Well my boy, what did you do?” The boy said, “I prayed to God and hung on like a beaver. “ Sometimes that is hung we feel about life. It gives us ups and downs, in and outs and that is time we just have to pray and hang on like a beaver.

David writes in Psalm 146:3, “Do not trust in princes, in mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.” As we finish this section on prayer declaration we must trust the Lord and not ourselves. Let us lean not on our own understanding but simply acknowledge the Lord and He will direct our ways. Here is our final declaration. I confess, I proclaim, I declare, I believe, therefore, have I spoken. In Jesus name. All these victories are in Jesus name. He destroyed the works of the devil. In prayer claim your victory. You have power in the name of Jesus. This is your moment and day. Stand in faith and receive from the Lord.

We have only two more days left on this section. Paul stated in 2 Corinthians 2:14. “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. This means wherever we are we have the victory in the name of Jesus. The following is your victory declaration. I repossess the land that I have lost, in the name of the Lord. I repossess supernatural financing to rebuild every broken place. I repossess and inhabit every possession stolen from me. I repossess my job, my health, my business, my marriage in Jesus name. I repossess my financial break-through. I retrieve my blessings from the evil confiscators, in the name of Jesus. I repossess my victory. I confess that I am delivered from the power of darkness. My battles belong to the Lord; he will fight all my battles throughout this year and I will triumph over my enemies in the name of the Lord. I repossess my vision. I confess that abundance of new ideas and favors are mine in the name of Jesus. It is time to go to the enemies camp and take back what he stole from us. Amen.
