PROVERBS OF STEEL FOR JAN 30, 2023

Jan 31 – God’s power – 1 Cor 2:5

Jan 31 – God’s power – 1 Cor 2:5

5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

Paul wanted that the faith they now had in Jesus Christ did not rest, be anchored, or have its foundation on human wisdom.  James says that human wisdom is if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.  This definition puts it concisely, precisely, and simple.

Paul wanted their faith, trust, and experience to be based on the explosive and unlimited power of God.  The God of the impossible who spoke, and the worlds came into being.  Human wisdom and power or limited.  God’s wisdom is beyond human understanding and has its origin with God and was there before the foundation of the world.  God’s power has no end and no limitations.  Faith based on that can and will do the impossible.

PROVERBS OF STEEL FOR JAN 30, 2023

Jan 30 – Power – 1 Cor 2:4

 Jan 30 – Power – 1 Cor 2:4

4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.

Paul’s message and preaching were not with wise or persuasive words.  It was a conscious decision on Paul’s part to change his method and approach when it came to his message and preaching.  Paul was not going to be like the other orators and scholars of the philosophy schools that were scattered through out the city.  Paul decided that he would the actions of the Holy Spirit be what people saw, heard and experience.  Signs and wonders spoke volumes.  The message of the Christ is one of supernatural origin and the Holy Spirit the third person of the Godhead will use whatever means and method to convict and convince a person.  The Holy Spirit is not subject to man’s limited perspective.  To try to explain or discount His methods and approaches is an insult to the creativity, omniscient and power of the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit will always demonstrate His power in such a way to reach the audience of whom he is working to convince.

Revival happens when we make a decision to follow God

proverbs of steel

Jan 27, Keep it simple – 1 Cor 2:1

 Jan 27, Keep it simple – 1 Cor 2:1

1 And so it was with me, brothers, and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.

This is where we get the beginning of the full picture of what kind of condition Paul was in when he arrived in Corinth right after Athens.  He calls them his brothers and sisters which they are in the Lord.  Remember we are all part of the family of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ.

When Paul arrived, he did not come with eloquence of speech.  He spoke plainly.  He tried that it Athens and was laughed off the hill. He also did not come with human wisdom.  He was not a proclaimer of Socrates of Plato.  He simple proclaimed his testimony about God.  Paul had made a decision to keep it simple.  Paul eliminated all the rhetoric and gave them the whole truth and nothing but the truth about Jesus Christ.

Jan 26 – 1 Cor 1:31 - Keep it Simple

 Jan 26 – 1 Cor 1:31 - Keep it Simple

31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Paul keeps it simple.  If you are going to boast than boast about the Lord.  Paul had been in the upper parts of society and education.  He had been boasting of his own righteousness and zeal.  He had been the top man in his field and where did it get him.  He got knock off his horse and spent several years in exile.  Paul had also seen what happens when you do your way so when he did His reset in Corinth, he was only going to preach Christ crucified and boast of the Lord and not of himself.  Excellent advice to follow.

QUOTES FOR JAN 25, 2023

Jan 25 – 1 Cor 1:29-30 - Four things to Remember

 Jan 25 – 1 Cor 1:29-30  - Four things to Remember

29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

These two verses are power pack.  Paul reminds the Corinthians that no one can boast in themselves.  He them reminds them that they are in Christ because of Him.  It is only because they chose to hear and heed the gospel that they are who they are and where they are.  He then says four things about Jesus Christ.  He is the wisdom of God.  Jesus is our righteousness and only through Him do we have righteousness.  We are clothed with His righteousness.  Jesus is holy and so we are holy.  We have been placed in a place of separation.  Our lives are not of this world.  Lastly Christ has redeemed us.  We were on the auction block of sin, but Christ came and redeemed us.  Well, we were yet sinners Christ died for us.  He paid the debt I could not pay.  This is what we should boast about and nothing else.

PROVERBS OF STEEL FOR JAN 24, 2023

proverbs of steel for Jan 24, 2023

Jan 24 – 1 Cor 1:28 - Foolish verses Strong!

28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are.

Paul says that God chose three things to nullify or make no effect when it comes to the things that are.  The reality of man is not the reality of God.  Man works in the natural world and God moves in the spiritual or supernatural realm.  Man is affected by time, space, matter and motion God is not.  God chose the lowly things of this world.  Jesus was born in a stable and not in a palace.  Most of God’s champion came from obscure places and birth.  The despised things.  He chose the cross a emblem of torture and cruelty.  God chose the things that are not.  The natural world has no bearing on what happenings in the spiritual realm.  Flesh is flesh and spirit is spirit.  God in His good pleasure did this to show the weakness of man.  Man has always tried to elevate himself and discovered to his shame how foolish and insignificant we can be.

QUOTES FOR JAN 23, 2023

Jan 23 – 1 Cor 1:27 – True Contrast!

 Jan 23 – 1 Cor 1:27 – True Contrast!

. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

God through the gospel and the foolishness of preaching chose to do two things.  He chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise.  All the wisdom of the world is foolish in comparison to the marvelous simplicity and truth of the gospel.  Secondly God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.  Man’s strength is nothing in comparison to the strength of God.  People who think they are strong are weak and those who think they are wise are foolish.  Real wisdom begins with a respect and fear of the Lord and real strength comes when one realizes their own weakness and rely on God’s strength.  Paul is doing a running comparison to show the reality of the gospel.

A time that is coming

PROVERBS OF STEEL FOR JAN 20, 2023

Jan 20 – Christ Power and Wisdom – 1 Cor 1:24

 Jan 20 – Christ Power and Wisdom – 1 Cor 1:24

24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Paul says three important truths.  First, to those whom God has called.  There is a call going out right now.  It comes in many forms, but it is clear, concise, and precise.  The Book of Revelation closes with a call to come.  God is sending His people to bring a message.  Jesus said many are called but few are chosen.  You make yourself chosen by answering the call.  The message of the Christ for many is spam.

Paul then states that both Jews and Greeks are being called.  Remember Corinth is a Greek city.  Its inhabitants are mainly Greek or Greek speaking.  The Holy Spirit is active and powerfully calling people to Christ.  Our job is to be ready to speak and disciple those whom God has brought to us.

Paul then says that Jesus Christ as the Messiah and Savior is the power of God and the wisdom of God.  He is the embodiment of all wisdom.  Jesus Christ was raised up by the resurrection power of God.  God’s physical representation was Jesus Christ, and He was the living wisdom and power of God.

PROVERBS OF STEEL FOR JAN 19, 2023

Jan 19 – Jews and Greeks – 1 Cor 1:22-23

 Jan 19 – Jews and Greeks – 1 Cor 1:22-23

22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.

Paul then reveals four things.  Two about the Jews and two about the Greek and Gentiles.  The Jews demand signs.  They want evidence that they can examine and debate about.  Secondly, because the crucified Christ the message of the Christ crucified is a stumbling block to the Jews.  The Jews also have the law, circumcision, and the prophets they are baffled by the message of the cross.  Remember the cross to the Jews is a symbol of torture and humiliation.  Only criminals are crucified.  Jesus was considered a blasphemer.

The Greeks are looking for wisdom.  They want mind puzzles, pithy sayings, wise thoughts, intelligence, knowledge, and enigmas.  To the Gentiles a man dying on the cross for their sins is foolish.  It makes no sense because they don’t even believe they are sinners.  God becoming man then dying for sin makes no sense and is foolish in the minds and view of man.
