Dec 23 - Vignettes on Prayer

Dec 23 - Vignettes on Prayer

Having good habits of prayer are essential to the health and well being of any Christian.  Prayer is good for mental health because you are able to release all your anxiety and cares to the Lord.  It is good for your health because you are feeding your soul.  It is good for your physical health because when you are sick you are claiming the promises of healing in prayer.  It is good for you soul because you are bringing it into line with God’s word.  It is good for your finances because God says He will supply every need and that happens through prayer.  It is good for your family because you are claiming them for God.  So pray and be healthy.

Dec 22 - Vignettes in Prayer

One of my favorite prayer activities is prayer walking.  I love Joshua 1:3 that says wherever we place our feet that is our ground.  I believe that completely.  In every community I have lived I have done extensive prayer walking.  It gives me a feel for the land.  As I walk I pray for the areas of that community.  I break down the community into sections and then walk the land claiming the souls in each section for the Lord.  I bind the spiritual forces in each section because they have no right authority or power over the Kingdom of heaven.  I release angelic help and protection in each section that they may clear the way for the Spirit to work.  God will also reveal the principle power in each section so in prayer their influence, authority and power can be broken.  Lives are at stake and we cannot be deceived into thinking that the enemy will give up one inch of territory.   Remember though when you submit to God and resist the devil he will flee from you.

Dec 21 - Vignettes in Prayer

Divine moments only happen when you see the opportunity and are ready to obey even in my case which I did reluctantly.  The drive home was no more than ten minutes but it would take us forty five.  I learned the names of each teen.  I found out that three were church drop outs, one was from a family who were in a cult and the last one was an agnostic.  I shared my testimony, urged then to go back to church and secured a promise from each one of them that they would.  I dropped them off at the local 711 and drove home on cloud nine.  I was so happy that I had obeyed the Spirit and learned a valuable lesson.  The lesson I learned was in prayer you get a divine perspective, hear the voice of God either through the word or direct impression.  When you obey you have the satisfaction and knowledge that God used you.  It is also a growing ground for the next step in your spiritual development.  Remember we grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dec 20 - Vignettes in Prayer

Dec 20 - Vignettes in Prayer

In our last vignette I talked about how the Holy Spirit telling me to follow a car to a bush party and how reluctantly I obeyed.  So sitting at the stop sign I waited.  I did not see the broken down car on the side of the road.  As I was sitting there someone rapped on my passenger window.  I rolled it down and a young  man told me his car had broken down and that his friends and him needed a ride home and would I be so kind to get them a ride.  I consented and 5 young teens piled into my compact car.  They had been at the bush party and needed to get home.  It was the funniest thing to see two boys and two girls sitting in the back seat of a car designed for two people and another boy sat up in the front in the passenger side.   I immediately prayed for wisdom to know what to do and what to say.  This was a divine moment and I did not want to waste it.  One thing about divine moments you have to seize them because they never come again in the same way.  Prayer is the essential element you need to use because you need wisdom to have the best results.  James 1:5, states if you lack wisdom you can ask of God and He will give it liberally and that is what I needed to get the best results of this divine encounter.

Dec 17 - Vignettes on Prayer

Dec 17 - Vignettes on Prayer

In this series of vignettes we have been looking at the prayer life of Jesus.  Now Jesus also allowed people to view His prayer life in Luke 9:18 we find Jesus praying in private but his disciples were near.  Jesus allowed this because He wanted His disciples to understand the importance and value of prayer.  We can learn so much when we pray with others.  In my early days of the faith I had the joy and privilege to pay with well seasoned people of prayer.  Their example gave me the desire to practice and hone my skills in prayer.  Praying with others can also help you to overcome your fear and shyness about prayer.  It is amazing how many people have told me over the years that they are afraid to pray in public.  Years ago in Hay River, we had a minister named Vivian.  When she first heard me pray she was intimidated.  Yet as she continued week by week to pray with myself and the other pastors she in time became extremely skilled and even surpassed some of us in the practice of prayer.  Prayer is actually a skill to be practiced and honed.  Jesus did this for the benefit of His disciples that when the time came they could lead others in this important practice.
