May 31 - Vignettes on Prayer

May 31 - Vignettes on Prayer

In 2 Cor 6:17, Paul cries out over the centuries.  Come out from them and be separate.  This however has nothing to do with communal living.  There once was a group of Christians that read this verse and so they had nothing to do with the world.  They never once went out to win a soul.  They became as Dr. Gordon Franklin put it, “A happy holy huddle.”

God doesn’t want us to drop out of the world.  He wants us to live in the world but not be part of it.  Luke 6, says that we are to occupy until He comes.  We can live in this world and not be stained by it.  That comes by walking and living in the Spirit.  Prayer is a vital agent of this reality.  The Holy Spirit will slowly change your hear and habits.

It is Paul’s desire that we not let the world be an active part of our Christian life.  Romans 12:2, says that we are not to conform to the world but to transform it.  Separation doesn’t mean isolation.  It means being part of the world’s affairs and people’s of the world’s lives but not allowing them to rule or influence you.  You rule and transform them through Christ.  Through prayer your intercession for their souls can change them from sinners to saints.

May 28 - Vignettes on Prayer

In Matt 5:16, it states that we are to let our light shine for all to see, that our good works would bring glory and honor to the Lord.  Back in 1986, I had the privilege to go to Israel.  We spent the day on the Sea of Galilee and at the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus gave the Sermon of the Mount.  That night we stay at a hotel on the Sea of Galilee.  Just before we went to bed I went for a walk and noticed the hills around the sea flickering with lights.  This verse hit me like a ton of bricks.  Those this is what Jesus was talking about, and letting our light shine before the world.  We do it but how we live more than what we say.  When we live what we say it brings glory to God.  Part of that process is prayer.  God through His word and our prayer time speaks into our lives and tells how we should think, talk and act.  So today let prayer be the vehicle to bring about actions that will glorify God and enable for our light to shine in this dark world.

May 27 - Vignettes on Prayer

Revelation 3, calls Jesus the great Amen, faithful and true witness and ruler of all God’s creation.  These are not monikers these names are who He is.  Makes you wonder just who Jesus is.  One thing for sure He is beyond our comprehension.  Great Amen, Faithful True Witness and ruler of God’s creation.  Know my deeds and help me not to be lukewarm.  Don’t separate yourself from me.  Let me not become to rich, wealthy, or think that I don’t need anything.  These things create a condition of wretchness, pitiful ness, poverty, nakedness and lameness.  Give me gold refined in the fire, white clothes and eye salve to see.  Rebuke and discipline me if necessary so I will be earnest and repent quickly.  Let me hear when you knock or call.  Let me hear your voice so you can come in and eat with

me.  Give me the right to sit on your throne with my heavenly Father in your name I pray.  Amen.    The overcomer has two more great rewards.  They will be able to eat of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb and sit on a throne.  This is all pretty sweet.  Let us make it our goal to overcome day by day in the Lord.

The Christian will always get strength in the Lord when they are weak.  Paul said we can do all things through Christ who strengthen us.  This is reflected in the next paragraph of this prayer. Today know my deeds, you who holds the Keys of David and opens all doors.  Keep me strong when I am weak, help me to keep your word and not to deny your name.  Keep satan and his liars from me and let them fall at your feet and know that you love me.  Help me to keep your commands and endure patiently.  Keep me from the trials that are about to come on the earth.  Let no one take my crown, make me a pillar in your temple.  Write on me the name of God, your city the New Jerusalem.   The overcomer gets a crown, become a pillar in the Lord’s temple, has a new name and gets to dwell in New Jerusalem.  Stay the course and become an overcomer.
