Eph 6:21:  Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing.

In vs 21, we are introduced to Tychicus, who was an Asiatic Christian who, with Trophimus, accompanied the Apostle Paul on a part of his journey from Macedonia to Jerusalem. He is also with Paul in Rome, where the apostle sent him to Ephesus, probably for the purpose of building up and encouraging the church there.  He is known as a dear brother and faithful servant of the Lord.  He would make the long journey to Ephesus to let them about Paul how he is and what he is doing.  In those days they did not have skype, messenger, or Snapchat.  It would take months for people to know the news.  It was obvious the church in Ephesus wanted to know how Paul was doing and Tychicus would be Paul’s messenger.  It should be our prayer that we exhibit the qualities of this man.  We should all want to be dear friends and faithful servants in the Lord.

Eph 5:20 For which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

In Vs 20, Paul knew that it was his task to bring the mystery of the gospel which is all people no matter who they are, where they come from, what color their skin, or the language they speak is for them.  Paul calls himself an ambassador in chains.  He was in Rome because of the will of God.  He had been warned about this but he knew that God wanted him to bring the message to the Roman elite.  Paul looks at himself as a representative of Christ in his world and we are the same.  Wherever we go and whoever we meet we represent a Kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy.  Like Paul, we should pray that we have courage and be fearless in our presentation of the gospel.  Paul brought Christ into his world and we must do the same.  Never let fear or doubt rob someone else of hearing the good news of Jesus Christ.  It could literally save their soul.

Eph 6:17:  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

In Vs 17, Paul says, take up the helmet of salvation.  This is protection for the mind.  We are called to think about good things.  Salvation helps clean up our mind and then we are to then make sure that whatever is going into our mind is godly.  Paul then says what will protect your mind is the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.  The word of God is our offensive and defensive weapon against the lies of the enemy.  Jesus used the bible to defeat the enemy in the temptation in the wilderness and you must use the Word to defeat the lies of the enemy.  Remember truth stands on its own.  Lies have no legs they need other lies to hold them up.

Eph 6:16:  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

In vs 16, Paul encourages the believer to take up the shield of faith.  Faith is your protection from the lies, accusations, and tests of the enemy it puts them out completely.   You trust God, His word and you have prayer as the conveyer belt of supplies you need for your warfare.    Faith works on the foundation of love and is the avenue in which you believe that you have a future.  Faith is trust in the promise of God.  Faith is the title deeds of things hope for and the evidence of things not seen.  Faith believes when there is nothing happens.  Faith is the eyes of the spirit and soul.  Faith knows God has all things under control and all things will work out.  Faith calls those things which aren’t like they are.
