May 16 - Devotions on Ephesians
Eph 6:6: Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.
In Vs 6, The motivation for obeying your masters or employers is to win their favor. You will others by using good works as the carrot you might say. We win people by what we do not what we say. Paul’s view was we are slaves of Christ so as we serve Christ we take that same kind of attitude or work effort into our vocations and employment realm. Paul also reminds us that as slaves of Christ we do the will of God from our hearts. The reality is that we have two individuals watching us our earthly employers and our heavenly father. In both cases, we are working for both their approval and rewards. So as you go about this day remember there are consequences and benefits in what we do. Both earthly and divine.
