Aug 9 - Vignettes on Prayer
Fasting in a Christian sense is simply the voluntary abstinence from food for a time so one’s complete attention may be focused on seeking God about a matter. You choose to fast so you can focus on seeking God in prayer and through His word. Remember fasting in no way earns you special favor with God because all that He does for us and gives to us is by His grace and mercy. We can never merit any of His favor toward us no matter how hard we try. It would not be grace if we could. Fasting is a time of focus and sacrifice. In some cases it may be the only means to defeat demonic strongholds. Remember Jesus some demons do not come out except by prayer and fasting. Isaiah warns us to have the right attitude in fasting.
