One Hour

 September 15 - One hour - Rev 18:17-18

Vs 17 -18 -  The speed of which this empire falls is what is amazing.  The ruler and his empire which many believed would last for a long time falls in a full hour.  Now we do not know if that is a literal hour or not.  We do know that the destruction of this entity will be fast and with great fury.  Every sea captain and all who travel by ship, the sailors and all who earned their living by the sea will stand far off.  The empire will have global influence.  Some have speculated that the city of Babylon will become a river port.  Most scholars believe that this Babylon is an empire with global connections and influence center in Europe or the old Roman Empire.  So this area has many sea ports and it would be very possible that the people who earn their living on the sea would be deeply affected by this.  They like the rulers and merchants escape the city and stand far off and lament and mourn at the loss of this empire.  It is burning, smoke is rising.  It has been destroyed and the destroyer is the Lord Himself.  They will exclaim in sorrow that there was never a city like this great city.  Babylon here is the pinnacle of man’s creativity, will and power.  It has fallen by divine means and those who did business, were loyal to it and loved it are in mourning over its loss.
