15 “Now, Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand and who made for yourself a name that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong.
Daniel in this first verse, shares five
things.
1. He again calls the Lord or
God.
2. Reminds the Lord He brought out His people out of Egypt with a
mighty hand.
3. God has a name that endures to this day.
4. We have sinned, again Daniel is identifying with those he is praying
for.
5. We have done wrong.
16 Lord, in keeping with all your righteous
acts, turn away your anger and your wrath from Jerusalem, your city, your holy
hill. Our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors have made Jerusalem and your
people an object of scorn to all those around us.
Things highlighted in this verse!
1. Lord in keeping with all your righteous acts. God does judge and deal with sin with
severity but that is not the end of the story.
After judgment comes, forgiveness, restoration, healing and
reconciliation.
2. Lord turn, away from your anger and wrath concerning Jerusalem, your
city your holy hill. Daniel with tears
in his eyes, sorrow in his heart pleads with God. Please turn from your anger and wrath.
3. Jerusalem is your city and Mount Zion where the temple was is your
holy hill. It is the place where you
were worshipped in the manner and means you commanded.
4. They were in this trouble because of their sins and iniquities which
is habitual unconfessed sin.
The sins and iniquities of our
ancestors have made Jerusalem and the Jewish people an object
of scorn.
5. This is why this moment is so important. This window of opportunity is closing even as
I speak. So what do we do? Let us pray, for ourselves, families,
churches, communities, province and country that God will show mercy, grace,
love, and bring revival. Revival is the
answer. Revival brings healing to God’s
people and we then reset to our original mandate of going into our world and
preaching the gospel and loving others.
