Church of Thyatira

Church of Thyatira

Quoted in the New Testament –

Quoted in the New Testament – Matt 10:35-36

Micah is quoted by Jeremiah and San Hedrin at the birth of Jesus Christ.  Jer 26:16-19 &
Mt 2:5-6.  Also Jesus quoted him when he sent forth His disciples.  Mt 10:35-36 & Micah 7:6  His contribution to future events we greater than he could dream.  To be quoted by Jesus gave great favor and also shows us how important prophecy is to the future of other generations.  What you do does matter to the future of others.  Campbell Morgan was asked once what was the secret to future Christianity and he said, “Invest in your family.”  They are the future and what you say and do does matter.  As you go about your business today think of how you can be effecting tomorrow by what you do today.  This thought carries great responsibility so live wisely before the Lord and others.

Revelation 7

The birthplace of Christ

The birthplace of Christ – 5:2

Micah was the man who defined true religion and he gave the location of the birthplace of Christ.  He reminded the people of Bethlehem that their glorious history would once again be brought into focus with the birth of the Messiah.  Jesus was born in humble surrounding us that He did not come as a conqueror but as a suffering Savior.
‘Micah saw how God despises of the sins of believers.  7:18-19  Iniquity is defined as sinning when you know better.  God never winks at sin and so we should not.  God has called us to holiness, purity and morality.  Anything less demeans the sacrifice God gave us through Jesus Christ.  Sin is sin whether done by a vilest sinner or the pious saint.  Only the blood of Jesus Christ came truly cleanse us of our sin.

More than mere profession of faith

More than mere profession of faith – Matt 7:21-23

Jesus has been shooting straight from the hip in the last few days.  He states here that not everyone who calls Him Lord will enter the Kingdom.  This is a reality for those in Christian cults.  Certain cults today have a Jesus in their central doctrines but this Jesus is not the Jesus of the Bible.  He may be the younger brother of satan or a created being and not God.  The unfortunate truth is that these sincere people have lived their lives serving an organization or religious system thinking they have attained salvation through works or religious teaching and in reality they never knew the Lord.
Those who enter the Kingdom do the will of the Father in heaven.  Jesus is the only way, truth and life the Father has given.  It is through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ salvation has been secured.  By His broken body and shed blood that have we been made whole.
Jesus states these people will prophesy, cast out demons and do wonderful works in His name but they never knew Him.  Jesus will call them workers of iniquity.  Imagine going through your life thinking you are right with God and finding out you were not.  Jesus states you are the Lord’s when you do the will of the Father.  Today make that your aim and goal so you will not have any surprises at the end of life.

Giving Honor

Giving Honor Rev 4:0-11

Vs 9 – So whenever these creatures give glory, honor and thanks to the one who sits on the throne and who lives forever something will happen.  Notice the primary function of these creatures is three fold.  To give, glory and thanks.  This should be an attitude of our everyday life.  We have been given the privilege of salvation so in our thoughts, words, deeds and attitudes we should be giving, glory, honor and thanks to the Lord for what He has done and who He is.
Vs 10 – As the 4 creatures give glory, honor and thanks the 24 elders worship Him as well and lay down their crowns before Him.  Even though they have been given positions of honor and glory these elders have a common touch and goal.  They know why they are there.  They know it through the grace and love of God that they have been given these positions.  In turn they lay or throw their crowns before the Lord.  All rewards come from God but in turn those who receive them are more than willing to return them because of grace and love.

Vs 11 – These creatures remind all that the Lord is worthy of honor, glory and thanks because all things were created by Him.  As a clay jar represents the skill and creativity of the potter so we do the same with God.  He skillfully created us and endued us with talents, skills and capabilities to show through our lives His love, grace mercy and glory.  These creatures also remind us that all things were created by His will and in Him they have their being.  We live because God wills it.  He sustains us and if He withdraws His life force we no longer exist.  It is bizarre to think of men cursing God when He is the very one that gives them all the attributes to think, talk and live.  Man is a silly thing according to Shakespeare.

Nothing is hid

Nothing is hid – Rev 5-6

Vs 5 – From the throne comes flashes of lightning, peals and rolls of thunder.  This symbolizes His power and majesty over all creation.  In front of the throne were seven lamps that were blazing.  John then explains these are the seven spirits of God.  This again is a reference to the seven manifestations of the Holy Spirit found in Isaiah.  These characteristics blaze brightly and light all creation and signify who He is.
Vs 6 – In front of the throne is a sea of glass clear as crystal.  This is the purity and transparency of God on what He is about to do.  John then describes the four living creatures.  They are covered with eyes front and back.  This represents the ability of God to see all things.  It is part of His ability to see all things and know all things.  Nothing is hid from God.  So like your life in openness and transparency.

Open heavens

Open heavens – Rev 4:1-2

Vs 1 – John looked and there was a door standing open in heaven.  John is looking around waiting for the next event to happen.  Then the voice that sounded like a trumpet tells him to come over and he was about to be shown what was going to happen next.  Two thoughts, the voice that sounds like a trumpet, is a herald about to announce the next major event and the door standing in heaven is a window in the future.  God wishes to announce to you His will, plan and purposes.  He will give you a glimpse but not the whole picture because of our tendency to run ahead and try to make things happen.
Vs 2 – Immediately, John finds himself in the Spirit witnessing a throne with someone sitting on it.  The reality is that the only way to we are going to see or experience God is in the Spirit.  Jesus said, in John 4:24, that the only way to worship God is to worship Him in Spirit and in truth.  Today worship the Lord and worship him in truth it is the only way to really worship.

Hated wrong doctrine

Hated wrong doctrine – Rev 2:6

The church of Ephesus was not all gone.  They however had one thing in their favour the hated the practices of the Nicolaitans They may have been identical with those who held the doctrine of Balaam. They seem to have held that it was lawful to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication, in opposition to the decree of the Church rendered in (Acts 15:20,29) The teachers of the Church branded them with a name which expressed their true character. The men who did and taught such things were followers of Balaam. (2 Peter 2:15; Jude 1:11) They, like the false prophet of Pethor, united brave words with evil deeds. In a time of persecution, when the eating or not eating of things sacrificed to idols was more than ever a crucial test of faithfulness, they persuaded men more than ever that was a thing indifferent. (Revelation 2:13,14) This was bad enough, but there was a yet worse evil. Mingling themselves in the orgies of idolatrous feasts, they brought the impurities of those feasts into the meetings of the Christian Church. And all this was done, it must be remembered not simply as an indulgence of appetite: but as a part of a system, supported by a "doctrine," accompanied by the boast of a prophetic illumination, (2 Peter 2:1) It confirms the view which has been taken of their character to find that stress is laid in the first instance on the "deeds" of the Nicolaitans. To hate those deeds is a sign of life in a Church that otherwise is weak and faithless. (Revelation 2:6) To tolerate them is well nigh to forfeit the glory of having been faithful under persecution. (Revelation 2:14,15)

Revelation 5

Micah Message

Micah Message - 1:7 & 5:13),

Micah was a true prophet he saw the evil of the day and spoke against it.  He spoke against idolatry, (1:7 & 5:13).  He saw the evil plans of men and reveal it for what it was.  He exposed evil and their devices.  We need to see and know how the enemies of God work.  (2:1)
Micah exposed the nation to their covetousness (2:2), and Greed, (3:2-11.  Today we call it capitalism.  Greed in any form will eventually destroy those who follow its design.  You will never get enough or be satisfied.
Micah showed that witchcraft is rebellion without the confrontation.  You try to control people without ever facing them.  (5:12) He also spoke against dishonesty.  Truth is truth and must be exalted or a society will be based on lies and a lies has no legs it needs other lies to hold it up.  (6:10-12),

Micah spoke against inward corruption, (7:2-4), and treachery (7:5-6)  All these issues at from a heart that is evil and must be reformed by the Lord or else we will eventually face His judgment.

Two Paths

Two Paths – Matt 7:13-14

Jesus then illustrates the paths to God.  He had in the previous verse made it clear that righteousness is a product of an inner transformation.  When a person asks Christ into their life they are regenerated from the inside out by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus then points out that if you want eternal and abundant life you have to enter by the straight and narrow gate.  Jesus then points out that the highway to hell or the road to destruction is wide.  In John 14:6, we are presented with the reality that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no one can come to the Father but through Him.  Worldly philosophy states that there are many paths to God.  Jesus debunks these lies by saying the path to destruction wide and many people are travelling it.  Have many people heading the same direction does mean they know where they are going, it just means they have a large group to travel in.

Jesus says the way to eternal life, righteousness and abundant life is narrow and few will find it.  Jesus also compares His teachings with those of the religious leaders of the day.  Their teaching will lead to destruction and His will lead to eternal life.

The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule – Matt 7:12

I have quoted this verse almost everyday of my Christian life.   How you want others to treat you, this is how you treat them.  Another way of looking at it is as follows, “No matter what you do to me, I will not do the same to you.”  Do unto others as you would have them do until you is basically the law of sowing and reaping.  How you treat others will be how you are treated.  Kindness begets kindness, hatred brings about hatred.  This rule has very much to do with forgiveness and the breaking of selfishness.  It you are trying to minister love, forgiveness and tolerance in others this is what shall be given back to you.  This is the same principle in the negative as well.  Paul puts it in simple terms in Gal 6:8, “God is not mocked, whatever you sow you will reap.  Jesus is giving here a promise and warning.  It is evident that Matthew believed very strongly in forgiveness, love and acceptance.  He was forgiven of His sins by Jesus.  Those that are forgiven much, love much.  Today let this golden rule be the rule of your everyday life.

Tell what you see

Tell what you see – Rev 1:11

Vs 11 – John was instructed to write on a scroll and then send this message or letter to the seven churches in Asia Minor.  These churches would have further instruction soon.  John was told to tell then what he saw and experience.  What John would see would defy imagination.  A fantastic reality was about to open up to him.  This letter would change everything and everyone who would look at the future.  This letter would also answer the question, “what is going to happen in the future?  You do not have to afraid of the future because God has everything under control.  You just have to trust Him and walk in faith each day.

Robert Dean Steel teaches on Revelation 4

On the Lord`s Day

On the Lord`s Day – Rev 1:10

Vs 10 – John was in the Spirit on the Lord`s Day when this happened.  This is a proof that the church met on the Lord’s day and was a practice from the early days of the church.  Meeting on the Lord’s day is one thing that distinguishes the difference between the Jewish and Christian faith.  Jesus rose from the dead on the Lord’s day and thus is the primary reason the church meets on the Lord’s day.  John also was in the Spirit at the time.  This is the only way to fully receive what we need from the Lord.  Jesus said, “That which is spirit is spirit and that which is flesh is flesh.”  You cannot receive from the spirit when you walk in the flesh.  John was in the right frame of mind to receive this message.  John then heard a loud voice behind Him which sounded like a trumpet.  This message like a trumpet would resonate strong, clear, precise and simple.  God has a simple message for you today.  Get ready and live ready because He is coming back soon.

The Church of Thyatira

Background of revelation

Background of revelation – Rev 1:9

Vs 9 – John reveals several things to consider and in this verse he states the background of this letter.  He lets his audience know that he was John.  Most scholars believe this was John the beloved and the brother of James who was the first martyr.  He was their fellow companion in the suffering that was prevalent at that time.  Domitian was the Caesar at the time and he was persecuting Christians throughout the empire. Previous to the writing of the book of Revelation tradition says that John had been boiled in oil but had survived and was banished to this island called Patmos.  John was serving in the Kingdom of God and was those who serve here was do it with patience and endurance.  Paul says that we must not grow weary in well doing because in due season we will reap a harvest.  John had been doing this ministry for about six decades.
John found himself imprisoned on the Island of Patmos because of two reasons.  The Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.  These two qualities must be front and center of all we do for Jesus Christ.  This book was written around 95 A.D.  The first century was about to close and John was the last of the apostles.  He left a legacy for all I trust that will be your goal and aim.  Leave the world a better place because you were in it.

Be strong

Demand for a Sign

Demand for a Sign – Matt 12:38-45 & Luke 11:29-36

The Pharisees and people wanted a sign and Jesus refused to give it to them.  Jesus said the only sign they would get is the sign of Jonah.  He then taught them about His resurrection.   People always want a sign for authority.  The Jews were always seeking and searching for a sign.  A wicked and adulterous generation seeks a sign.  They say, “Prove to me that there is a God and I might believe.   As Jonah was in the belly of a large fish so shall the Son of Man be in the earth.  Jesus was foretelling of His death, burial and resurrection.
The men of Ninevah will stand on judgement day and condemn the people of Jesus’ day.  The Queen of the south will condemn them also.  She came to hear Solomon and his wisdom.  Jesus is greater than Solomon.  There is a time of accountability so live your life ready.
