Thanksgiving – Oct
13, 2013 – Ps 92:1
It is a good thing to give thanks
unto the Lord unto thy name O most High!
Intro; Here we are
again for another Thanksgiving. For me
it has two meanings. I am thankful first
for the salvation and redemption that was given to me 35 years ago. Secondly for the wonderful wife and family
the Lord has given me. Now what is
Thanksgiving all about?
It is a celebration!
1. It is a
celebration and time to thank God for Him giving us family and friends.
2. Thanking him for
Him giving us life, health, food, shelter, clothing and transportation.
3. He gives us
spiritual and physical healing.
4. He gave us mercy
and grace. He did for me.
5. It is time for us
to gather with others to thank Him Today
we are gathering as a
church To enjoy communion which is a celebration
and memorial of the broken body
And shed blood of
Jesus Christ and then after we will enjoy a meal together to
Celebrate our
mutual love and friendship as believers in Christ.
It is a Proclamation!
1. David declared in
our opening verse. It is a good thing to
give thanks unto the Lord.
Unto thy name O
most High. Thanksgiving for our family
has been a time of joy.
Lois always makes
it special.
2. People
seem to act more kindly during thanksgiving. It can be a time of
Reconciliation. It amazes me that people could actually be
ungrateful. L.E. Maxwell
Stated one time
in a message about the young man who railed against the Rotten
Establishment.
3. What are you
proclaiming today? Our communion in a
few moments will proclaim
His death till
He comes. We are proclaiming our love,
allegiance, thankfulness,
And obedience to
this ordinance till He comes. We are
proclaiming our appreciation
For His death, burial and resurrection.
4. We are proclaiming
our thankfulness that Jesus is our Savoir, Healer, Baptizer in the
Holy Spirit and
Soon Coming King. We are so thankful
that the blood of Jesus Christ
Has given us
salvation, access to the throne room of God through prayer, abundant
Life and power
over the devil.
It is a Demonstration!
1. It is
a demonstration of our love for God. Thanksgiving
is a time where we stop and
Reflect and give
thanks for the many blessings that God has given. John Oatman Jr.
Wrote this verse,
“Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will
Surprise you what
the Lord has done.” Communion as well is
a time to thank the
Lord for the gift
of salvation, forgiveness of sin and the wonder of the atonement and
All that is
accomplished.
a. C.W. Keiningham
states that thankfulness is rooted in God’s goodness.
b. It then rises from
man’s gratitude.
2. It is
a demonstration of our love for each other.
By sharing ourselves and what we
Have reaffirms
our love for each other. Paul reminds us
in Col 3:15 to be thankful.
a. Being thankful and
showing to others in practical means results in blessings for all.
b. It seems like
gratitude and thankfulness seem to be in short supply. C.E. Macartney
Writes the most
common sin in
Famous general
said in 35 years of military service he only receive one letter of
Thank you.
c. The
Only once did
they receive a letter thanking Santa.
d. We must cultivate
thanksgiving, into our homes and businesses.
We must appreciate
Our
blessings. Communion is a time to help
us focus on this. As we get ready for
Communion and our
dinner that will follow. Let us
fellowship together around this
Table of the
Lord. Then upstairs we will do in a more
practical sense by enjoying
Some food
together.
e. Let us not be like
King Lear said, Ingratitude thou marbled hearted fiend. How
Sharper than a
serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child.”
f. Let us be thankful
and celebrate thanksgiving because the consequences of true
Thanksgiving is
that God is glorified.
