A basketball
coach once told his players on the first day of camp it is not how well you
play but how long it takes you to recover.
There are people who are persistent.
The doctor’s report, the pink slips, a car breakdown. They don’t just panic they seem to rise to
the occasion. They say okay this is bad,
but I can rise above it.
Leo Tolstoy wrote
War and Peace five times until he got it right.
Ernest Hemingway wrote A Call to Arms 50 times unto he was satisfied
with the finished product. Greatness is
not measured in talent but tenacity.
There is a
wonderful promise given to the overcomer.
To be an overcomer you have to have something to overcome. I have a poster in my office of a frog being swallowed
by a stork and the frog has his hands around the bird’s throat. It says never give up.
I was talking
to a fellow yesterday that said never ask for patience because Paul stated in
Romans that only tribulation works patience.
So here is a thought when trials come and they will come. Ask the Lord for wisdom, tenacity and an
overcoming spirit.
