It was only a
year ago I sat beside a hospital bed in a small southern Alberta town. My youngest brother had been suffering from cancer
for less than two years. Only a few
weeks previous I had a conversation with him and ask if we ready for eternity
and he said yes. My older brother had
been told by the hospital that our younger brothers time was very short, so he visited
him on the Friday evening and exhorted me to not delay in seeing our younger
brother.
I made the 2 ½
hour trip from my home to the hospital.
I arrived at 930 a.m. and was immediately escorted to my brother’s
room. He was pale and his breathing was
labored. I sat beside him and attempted a
conversation with no response. In that
moment I ask him a question. I said, “Danny,”
do you want to go to be with Jesus or be healed?” No answer no I said, “Okay lets pray the will
of God be done.” I pray, “Lord, if you
want Danny to be healed do it now or if you want to take him home do it now.”
To my
amazement and shock my brother only a moment later he stopped breathing and
went into eternity. It was obvious what God’s will was. I sat with him for another half an hour just
letting him know in my own way he was not alone. The nurse came in not long after and confirm
what I knew. I was so glad to have been
with my younger brother at that moment. It
is always good to not be alone when you pass into eternity. I was glad to have been there with him and also,
it was a powerful experience because I knew that he is going home to be with
the Lord.
Jesus taught
that an angel escorts the righteous to heaven when they pass from this world to
the next. I have had several experience
like this and this one with my brother was just a reminder that we all one day
will be face with eternity. Where we spend
it is our choice. I hope like my brother
you will choose the Lord. I know I have,
and I was glad he did.
