Years ago, a
man wanted to focus on a principled centered life. So, he was looking for examples, and he came
across King David. He found that these
principles turned a shepherd boy into a king, and I wish to share them with you
today in a series of three articles,
According to 1
Samuel 17, there were no giant killers in the army of Israel. Just a shepherd boy who believes by faith he
could bring down a giant. God is looking
for someone like that today. If you are
ever going to amount to anything you must face your giant.
First, being
faithful and responsible in the little assignments and daily tasks. You never win a marathon or a race until you
take the first step. When you are
faithful in the small things and eventually you will be given greater tasks and
responsibility.
Be disciplined
and trim off the excess baggage. David
went into battle with Goliath with a sling and five stones. He fought with what was familiar and
effective. If you are going to win you
have to be focused, discipline and willing to train. Ever notice athletes in the Olympics. They never wear baggy clothing. They were light clothing designed for their
sport. The writer of Hebrews says we
must lay aside the weights and sins that entangle us and slow us down.
Next, Be consumed
with the glory of God. This means to have
the character, essence, and nature of God in your life. You want his will, plan and purpose for your
life. David like Jesus only wanted to do
the will of God. When you are focused on
heavenly things heaven will come to assist you.
Fourthly, be
happy in the place you are serving. A
flower blooms where it is planted. Don’t
be looking for the bigger and better deal.
You find out quickly that the grass is not greener on the other
side. There is a reason you are where
you are. Be a blessing there. Joseph was a slave in the house of Potiphar
and then a prisoner. He made the best of
the situation and when the time was right, he went from prisoner to Prime
Minister in one day. Serve where you are
because a placed you there for a time.
You may be the only witness for Christ there.
