Life Lessons of
Isaiah – Is 59:20-21 – Jan 4, 2009
Intro: One thing I
love about the New Year is being able to set a course for the following
year. This year by God’s grace we will
finish the Old Testament in our Walk Thru the Bible. The in the fall we will begin the New
Testament. Today we are finishing our
series on the Book of Isaiah by looking at the Life of Isaiah.
1. From your outline
we learn that Isaiah ministered through the reign of four kings.
He was the son of
Amoz. He was married to a prophetess and
had two sons named
Shear Jushub and
Maher Shalal Hesh. He was a living
lesson by walking around
Naked and
barefoot for three years.
a. Isaiah was called the prophet
of redemption and the messianic prophet. He saw
Jesus’, virgin
birth, His ministry, suffering, death and His reign on earth. He saw John
The Baptist’s life
and ministry.
b. Isaiah
was a statesman and poet. He told kings not to fear on occasions. His
Greatest time of
influence was during the reign of Hezekiah.
He was the steady voice
Of God through
the attack of the Assyrians. He told
Hezekiah not to fear the
Assyrians, when a
letter came from the Assyrians mocking God, Hezekiah sent a
Letter telling
Hezekiah the Lord would deal with the Assyrians. An angel of the Lord
Came and killed
185,000 Assyrian soldiers. He told of
the death of Hezekiah but when
Hezekiah repented;
Isaiah told him God gave him another 15 years.
Through the two
Miracles of the
Poultice of Figs and his shadow going back 10 steps, Hezekiah saw
God work.
c. He
saw further Kingdom’s and their leaders.
When emissaries from
To see
Hezekiah. Isaiah told him that one day
they would take the treasures of
To
Facilitate
2. Isaiah
was known as a man who had an incredible relationship with God. He was
A man of prayer
and a scholar of the word. An entire
version of his book is on display
In
a. When King Uzziah
died Isaiah saw the Lord, high and lifted up and His train filled the
People with
unclean lips. He repented of this and
had coals off the altar of God that
Cleansed of
that. He volunteered at that time to
speak to the people on God’s behalf.
Which he did for
decades until his death at the hands of King Manasseh.
b. This relationship
now brings us to our scripture today. This
is a promise given to
3. The Redeemer will come to
The
Lord. Is 59:20 Isaiah sees a
time when the Lord will come to
Place where the
glory of God is.
The tabernacle
and then where Solomon built the temple.
In most references is means
The place where
God is worshipped.
a. Isaiah also saw it
as a place where those in Jacob would repent of their sins. A
Place where
forgiveness would be asked and received.
Today we live in a time where
As Jesus
describes in John 4:24, where we can worship the Lord in Spirit and truth. A
Place as Paul
says, in Rom 10:9-10, believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths.
Location is not
as important as confessing our sins and knowing that God will forgive
Us as
John states in 1 John 1:9
b. I love the time
period we live in. Repentance is so
easy, yet powerful and effective.
Believe, confess,
renounce you sins and receive forgiveness.
It amazes me that
Mankind refuses
it, complicates it or procrastinates when t comes to this wonderful
Gift. Or that His church finds it so hard to share
it with others. As the temple of the
Holy Spirit this
next verse is so wonderful.
4. “As
for me this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. God makes an agreement
Promise or a covenant with His people. When God makes a covenant with someone
He will keep it
and will never break it. It is a binding
contract with the God of the
Universe who
will always honor it and make sure it is kept on His part.
a. “My
Spirit who is on you.” Isaiah
saw 700 years before it happen the realm and time
Of the Holy
Spirit. It was time he could only dream
of. In the O.T. the Holy Spirit
Came upon God’s
people. In our time period, He lives in
God’s people. In Isaiah’s
Time the Spirit
when He came upon people they did exploits.
Today with the Holy
Spirit in us, we
have resurrection power, (Rom 8:11), the resources of heaven at our
Disposal. We have communication with heaven through the
Spirit. We have the fruit,
Gifts and life
of the Holy Spirit. We have what only
Isaiah dreamed of. Let us use it
This year for
His glory.
b. And my words that I have put
in your mouth will not depart from your mouth.
Isaiah was a lover
of God’s word, he spoke extensively about it.
He like all prophets
Believe that the
writings of scripture were literally God’s word for mankind. Isaiah
Saw a time when
the people of God will have the word in their mouths and it would
Not depart from
them. That happens by the Holy Spirit and
also by studying and
Memorization of
God’s word. 2 Tim 2:15
c. Or from the mouths of your children or from
the mouths of their descendents.
What a promise. The Spirit and the words of God is in the
mouths of our children
And their
descendents. Don’t you see the effects
of future generations of what we
Are doing right
now. What you do today, tomorrow and
this year will effect the
Destiny, future
and impact of your children and future generations of descendents.
Walk in the
Spirit church, pray, live, exercise His gifts and the fruit
Of His
lifestyle. Be a person of the Word and
give that to your children. Your
Daily example
will impact according to this verse & will effect future generations.
Maybe millions
will be touch through one of your descendents.
d. From
this time on and forever says the Lord. This
is God’s sure word.
