JOSEPH FATHER OF JESUS

 

Joseph – Earthly Father of Jesus!

 

-        His Father was named Jacob, carried on the tradition of the Patriarch Jacob.  Matt 1:16

-        Husband of Mary.  Matt 1:16

-        Was of house and line of David.  Luke 2:4

-        He was a righteous man and charitable.  He did not want to expose Mary to public shame when he became aware she was pregnant.  Matt 1:19

-        God spoke to Joseph 3 times in a dream about various things.  Matt 1:20-21, 2:13, & 19-20

-        He was obedient to the Lord.  Matt 1:24, 2:14 & 21.

-        He was a man of faith because He believed the Lord in all He heard.  Matt 1:24, 2:13-15 & 19-22

-        He helped fulfill prophecy.  Matt 2:23

-        Followed the law of the Lord and did his religious duties.  Luke 2:23 & 41

-        Was in Jesus’ life until he was twelve.  Died before Jesus began His ministry.  In Mark 6:3, Jesus is known as Mary’s son.  This indicates that Joseph was dead.  Another theory for Jesus not starting His ministry until 30 was his obligations to family as the eldest son after Joseph died.

-        Was a carpenter by trade and had four sons with Mary.  (James Joses, Judas or Jude and Simon).  Mark 6:3

-        Witnessed the fulfillment of God’s promises.  Shepherds, Simeon, Anna and the Wise men.
