It is a brand new school year and this one is the most unusual one in
more than a century. Face masks and
Covid 19, with all its protocols are the rule of the day. The year of 2020 has certainly been a
different year. It started the same as
everyone else but since March it has been a year of fear and uncertainty. So how does one react when the world seems to
be spinning out of control? Fortunately
the Bible has much to say about what to do.
The first thing you should do is not panic. There is an old saying that goes like this,
“When everyone else is losing their mind keep yours.” This means making sure that you have a good
perspective on what is happing around you.
The Bible states that we should not give into fear. 2 Tim 1:7 states that God has not given us a
spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind. That means when fear tries to grip your life
let God’s love, power and sound mind fill your heart. Here are some anachronisms, for dealing with
fear. FEAR, Feeling Excited and Ready,
FEAR, Face Everything And Recover, FEAR, Face Everything and Respond. Facing your fears and letting God help you is
wonderful. Next, you need to pray. Paul writes in Phil 4:6-7, Do not be anxious
about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
This means let prayer be an active part of your life. George Mueller a well known Christian leader
of two centuries past was known for his prayer life. It has been said he prayed about every little
thing. He involved God into everything
he did. During his life time he took
care of up to 2000 orphans at a time.
Not once did one person go without.
Yet George Mueller never once asked for any donation or help. He prayed in everything. He believed that God would supply and God
did. One story has the orphanage one
morning having no food to prepare at 6 am.
Mr. Mueller was told and he announced with confidence that by the 8 a.m.
breakfast time God would provide. Then
George Mueller went to prayer. He
quietly went to his place of prayer and asked God to supply. At 730 a.m.
a man pulled up with several wagons and unloaded them with a hot meal
and supplies for a week. God always did
provide. He will do the same for a
person who asks in faith believing.
Another powerful thing you can do is ask for wisdom. Wisdom is the ability to know what to do with
the information and knowledge that has been provided. Godly wisdom is a tremendous thing. You know what to say, how to act and
react. There is also a promise found in
James 1:5 that says, “if you lack wisdom you can ask of God and He will give it
to you liberally.” This means you can be
a person of wisdom. Did you know the
Bible contains over 10000 promises that a person can stand on when life seems
to be spinning out of control? A little
boy asked his grandfather why he was reading his bible so fervently. The wise old man said, “I have a tendency to
do foolish things and this book keeps me from being a complete fool.” The Bible is like a set of train tracks it
keeps us from going off track and plunging into a chasm of chaos and
destruction. God’s wisdom and divine
view are so important these days because we can see the big picture and not
just our own or some media or politician’s perspective.
Lastly to deal with up and down
times is to listen. This means listening
to people who know what they are talking about.
There are many voices telling you what you should do and not to do. People who are educated in the field of the
problem are the best people to listen too.
Medical professionals are the best people to listen to when a medical or
pandemic is happening. People who are
educated in the field know what they are talking about. They have dedicated they lives to this and
have the training and know how to make the best recommendations. When you have a medical problem you go and
see a doctor and follow their advice because they know what they are talking
about in most cases. Hopefully our
politicians and leaders are following sound medical advice. That is why we need to pray for those in
authority over us that we can lives a quiet and peaceful life. I hope that these little thoughts will help
and God Bless.
