DAVID THE KING

 

David as King of Judah and Israel  in 2 Samuel

 

                        

 

- David became King of Judah and reign for 7 ½ years and then Israel 33 years.

- He wept for Saul and Jonathon and dealt harshly with those who touched the anointed.

   2Sam 1:1-16

- Was a poet and Psalm writer.  1:17-27, 22:1-23

- Sent message of encouragement. 2:1-7

- Was a warrior.  2:8-3:5

- Trusted the Lord for vengeance. 3:38-39

- David made Jerusalem his capital.  5:9-17

- Defeats Philistines and calls the place of victory, Baal Perazim. (God of the

  Breakthrough). 5:17-25

- Brings ark to Jerusalem and dances before the Lord, Michal rebukes him and bears no  

  Children.  Ch 6

- David wishes to build a temple for the Lord but refused because he is a man of blood

   But given promise that his seed will reign forever.  Ch 7

- David is victorious over enemies.  Ch 8

- Is kind to Saul’s house.  Ch 9

- Defeats Ammonites.  Ch 10

- Commits adultery, kills Uriah and the child of adulterous union dies.  Ch 11-12

- Writes Psalm 51

- Daughter is raped and son killed.  Ch 13

- Absalom plots uprising.  Ch 14-15

- David is force to flee, helped by Ziba, cursed by Shimea and betrayed by Ahithopel.

   Ch 16-17

- Civil war follows, Absalom is killed and David mourns his death.  Ch 18-19

- Sheba rebels against David.  Ch 20

- Gibeonites revenged.  Ch 21

- David’s mighty men.  Ch 23:8-39

- Made census and cursed with many deaths.  Builds altar and purchases Mount Moriah

   For temple property.  Ch 24
