Bathsheba – Daughter of Sheba or Daughter of an Oath!
- Daughter of Ammiel or Eliam,
the granddaughter of Ahithopel the
counsellor of David Who betrayed him during Absolom’s rebellion When
His counsel was rejected he hung himself. Knowing all betrayers would be
killed.
1 Chron 3:5
- Wife of Uriah the Hittite
listed as one of David’s most celebrated heroes. 2
Sam 11:3
- She committed adultery with King David. She became pregnant and
David tried to get Uriah back from the battlefield
to sleep with Bathsheba.
When this failed he had Uriah placed in the
thick of the battle at Rabbah
and he was killed. 2 Sam 11
- Bathsheba married David but lost their child
because of their sin
2 Sam 12.
- David repented and they had a second son who
was Solomon. This shows
the mercy of God and His restoration power. She became the favourite
wife of David.
- She had three other sons, Shimea, Shodab and
Nathan. 1 Chron 3:5
- Before David died she became allied with
Nathan the prophet who had
condemned David for adultery and together
they reminded David of his
promise to make Solomon King. This showed true repentance means total
restoration.
1 Kings 1:13
- As mother of Solomon, she later became the
Queen Mother of Israel when
Solomon became King. She intercede for Adonijah who had tried to
get
control of the kingdom before David
died. She was a woman of
compassion.
1 Kings 2:13-25
- Most scholars believe she is the inspiration
behind Proverb 31 about the
Righteous woman.
- She is listed in the genealogy of Jesus. Matt 1:6
