Adulterous Woman

Adulterous Woman – John 8:1-12

Jesus was on the Mount of Olives and He was teaching when the Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in the act of adultery.  They asked what they should do with the woman.   The law said the woman had to be stoned.  Jesus was caught as far as they were concerned.  If he said, “let her go,” He would be going against the law.  If he said, “stone her.”   Then He would be going against His teaching of love, acceptance and forgiveness.  Jesus replied, “He who is without sin, cast the first stone.”  Then He knelt down and started writing on the ground.  They all started leaving from the oldest to the youngest.  Soon all who were left was Jesus and the woman.  Jesus looked up and asked her where all her accusers were.  She replied, “No one here.”  Jesus then told her that He did not condemn her, but go and sin no more.

1.       This shows you cannot trap Jesus.  Jesus knows the hearts of men so well.
2.       Jesus did not condemn this woman but He did not condone what she did.  Love does not condemn but it always does not condone or over look sin.
3.       She is an example for us.  Jesus loves us and He wants us to leave our life of sin, when we come face to face with Him.
