March 27 – Psalm 34:8-9 – Taste and See

 March 27 – Psalm 34:8-9 – Taste and See

David packs so many great things in this psalm.  He encourages his readers to taste and see and they will know the goodness of the Lord.  He equates the goodness of the Lord with two ways we receive information.  Taste of course is equated to good food.  The Lord leaves a residue of good in our lives as salt, garnish or main dish fills us up.  The Lord feeds our soul with His goodness.  David says see that the Lord is good.  Ninety percent of our information comes through the eyes.  When you see the goodness of the Lord your faith increases.  You believe for the impossible.  David then says you are blessed when you take refuge in the Lord.  He is your protection, your rest and place of safety.

He then tells the people of God to fear the Lord.  Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  Remember He is still the creator of the universe and even the air you breathe and the manner you breathe is a gift of God.  It takes nine month to come into this world but only a moment to leave.  David then closes our devotion and this verse saying those who fear, respect, have a healthy respect God will lack nothing.  The Lord is Jehovah Jireh and He will provide for you this day.
