Feb 3 – Devotion on Ephesians
11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands.
In Vs 11, Paul reminds them that they were gentiles or people who did not have an outward sign of circumcision. They were called the uncircumcised by the Jews. Their rights and privileges came by birth and by the ceremony done by human hands when they were eight days old. The Jews were a theocracy whose King and ruler were God. The Ephesians were formerly of a pagan society who followed the polytheistic deities and false gods made of wood and stone by the hands of men. This was their state and their destiny. Paul is getting to a point. He wants them to remember what they were and how Christ has elevated them and gave them a purpose. That was their past not their present or future. We have so much more in Christ than we ever lost.
