April 28 – Great is the Lord – Psalm 48:1-3

April 28 – Great is the Lord – Psalm 48:1-3

We are going to spend the next three days in this Psalm.  It has some many great truths.  In vs 1, the sons of Korah say, “Great is the Lord and He is worthy most of praise.”  Praise is expressing thanks for what God has done.  The Lord is worthy of praise and then they spend the next couple of verses telling why.  The city of Jerusalem is the city of God.  It is the place where God has chosen to put His people and temple.  Recently I was in a Jewish place of worship and in there I saw the history and love that God had for His people.  They remember.

In vs 2, it is beautiful in its situation and it is the joy of the whole earth.  Three major religions claim this as a place of worship.  It truly is a beautiful city.  The writers equate Jerusalem like the great city of Zaphon which was known for its beauty.  Jerusalem is the city of the great King.  Of course we know on the Triumphant entry the city of Jerusalem welcome Jesus Christ the great King.  In vs 3, God is in the citadels and shows Himself throughout the fortress.  The city is the earthly habitation of the Lord they were saying.  Today we are the temple of the Holy Spirit.  He will show His glory through us.  Be that vessel today.
