     In the last snap shot we found Daniel Nash confronting a group of rabble rousers.  Here we see what happens when a man full of the Holy Spirit and has been in the presence of God prays through.  Nash  was standing where he brought his hand down on the top of the pew before him, so as to make it thoroughly jar. He sat immediately down, dropped his head, and groaned with pain.

     “The house was as still as death, and most of the people held down their heads. I could see that the young men were agitated. For myself, I regretted that Brother Nash had gone so far. He had committed himself, that God would either take the life of some of them, and send them to Hell, or convert some of them, within a week. However, on Tuesday morning of the same week, the leader of these young men came to me, in the greatest distress of mind. He was all prepared to submit; and as soon as I came to press him he broke down like a child, confessed, and manifestly gave himself to Christ. Then he said, ‘What shall I do, Mr. Finney?’ I replied, ‘Go immediately to all your young companions, and pray with them, and exhort them, at once to turn to the Lord.’ He did so; and before the week was out, nearly if not all of that class of young men, were hoping in Christ.”  What a breakthrough.  God will do beyond what we ask if we prevail in prayer.

     In this Vignette we have another account of the prayer life of Daniel Nash to encourage you.  Daniel

Nash would not attend meetings, and while Finney was preaching Nash was praying for the Spirit’s outpouring upon him. Finney stated, ‘I did the preaching altogether, and brother Nash gave himself up almost continually to prayer.’ Often while the evangelist preached to the multitudes, Nash in some adjoining house would be upon his face in an agony of prayer, and God answered in the marvels of His grace.  The praying men who held the ropes. The tears they shed, the groans they uttered are written in the book of the chronicles of the things of God.”  Only praying people will accomplish much when they pray.  Never stop praying and only pause when the answer comes and then keep praying through.

     In this series of Vignettes we have been looking at the prayer ministry of Daniel Nash often called the Prince of Prayer.  He worked alongside Charles Finney who was considered one of the most effective evangelists, of the 19thcentury.  Here is another account of their ministry together.  Charles Finney so realized the need of God’s working in all his service that he was wont to send godly Father Nash on in advance to pray down the power of God into the meetings which he was about to hold.”  I saw this in action in 1980, when Billy Graham came to Edmonton.  The city was saturated by prayer and thousands came to Christ.  Charles Spurgeon called the prayer room the engine of the church.  Let us go back to the prayer closet with others and win our communities back to God.
