The Power of Pentecost – Zech 4:6
Intro: This is
Pentecost and this is the Sunday we remember how the church was transformed and
made into the church God wanted it to be.
So what is Pentecost all about?
1. First it is not a movement, denomination or
church tag. We may have made it that way
but it was designed for that.
a. It is
not a spiritual experience to hang up like a trophy or a spiritual high.
b. It is
not a special revelation or teaching to be enjoyed by the enlightened or a
prerequisite for salvation.
-
Pentecost is the power to witness, to have
gifts to express the manifold grace of God and to communicate with God and man. So that the believer would be endued with
power from on High. Acts 1:8
-
Our text talks about how we must learn it is not
but our or man`s might or power that things will be accomplished in the
supernatural and national realm but by the Holy Spirit. Talk about HT. Richey.
2. Pentecost
means waiting and coming into unity in prayer, praise and worship with the
Spirit and the fellow believers. God comes and release the resources of
heaven to impact the world for Christ.
3. Pentecost
turns the coward into the courageous.
It means 3000 getting saved in one sermon and not 1 getting saved in
3000 sermons. It means people being cut to the
heart by conviction not condemnation. Pentecost
causes a person to ask the question.
What must I do to be saved.
4. It
means the Spirit being poured out upon all flesh. Young man seeing visions. Sons and daughters prophesising. Servants of God having the Spirit poured out
on them . Old men dreaming dream and
everyone who calls on the name of the Lord being saved. Talk about Tracy Baxter being baptised in her
bedroom.
5. It
means throwing preconceived ideas of how God works out the window. It breaks religious molds and concepts. It causes men to say this is God. That is what the Gentile Pentecost did as did
Azusa Street.
6. Pentecost
is very important for the following reasons:
a. Power
for Service
b. Power
for Spiritual Warfare.
c. Power
for overflow.
d. Power
for Ability.
7. In the case of the Ephesians Pentecost it
changed their church. It will change any
believer or organization open for it.
One final thought we needs it today more than before. Close with
need for it today.
