Don’t worry – Matt 6:25-32
We are covering a large portion of scripture but the message is clear, don’t worry. Jesus’ talks to the people there about not worrying about clothing, food, or shelter. Today we would add transportation. Jesus uses the illustrations of the birds of the air and the lilies of the valley. He states that they don’t work, toil or worry because takes care of them. He also states that Solomon in all his fame, popularity and glamour was not clothed as beautifully as the flowers of the field.
Jesus reminds His audience that they are worth more than any animal. He also states that you cannot add one inch to your height or one more moment to your life by worrying. The reason people worry is because they don’t have faith in God or themselves. Then He calls them what they are, people of little faith. This is a rebuke, but it also comes with a promise. The promise is that the Lord knows what you need and He will supply. The Lord is Jehovah Jireh our provider.
Jesus closes this little passage with reminding His audience that they are a covenant people and God always takes care of His own. The gentiles worry about things such as clothing, shelter, food and transportation. God’s people should not because God knows what they need even before they need it and He will supply every need according to His riches in glory. So don’t worry be happy.
