Wise Saying
Jesus is a man of contrasts. Humble and yet
totally God. Willing to heal a broken body and yet He exposed the
sickness of the heart. Redeemer and judge all in one.
Jesus' Baptism
Jesus’ Baptism – Matt 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-33 & John 1:29-34
Jesus came to John at the river Jordan to be baptised. John tried to stop Him but Jesus insisted. Jesus went into the water and the Spirit of God descended as a dove and the voice from heaven spoke, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.
1. Jesus was baptised so that all righteousness would be fulfilled.
2. This event showed the Trinity. The dove was the Holy Spirit, the voice was the Father and Jesus was in the water.
3. The Holy Spirit was empowering Jesus for His three years of ministry.
4. The Father tells us that He is well pleased and in love with His Son.
5. Jesus was in prayer when this happened and this shows He is a man of prayer.
6. Jesus is revealed by John the Baptist as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. His mission was clear right from the start.
7. Jesus was baptised and revealed to Israel.
8. It is revealed here that Jesus is going to baptise one day other with the Holy Spirit which did happen.
9. John is a witness that Jesus is the Son of God.

Wise Saying
What is amazing is that with all the technology
we have at our disposal to communicate with each other we still will not take
the time to talk to others.
John the Baptist
Today we are doing our devotion differently. Instead of focusing on a scripture we will look the characteristics of John in a more topical format.
1. John practiced self denial. Matt 3:4
2. He was a man of courage. Matt3:7 and 14:4
3. He was obedient to the cause he was given. Matt 3:15
4. John was a powerful preacher. Mark 1:5
5. He was man of humility. Mark 1:7 & John 1:19-13
6. He had a burning zeal. John 5:35
7. He was honoured by Christ. Matt 1:11 & Luke 7:24-27
8. John did not do any miracles. John 10:41
9. He suffered martyrdom at the hands of Herod. Matt 14:10
There will always be a price for righteousness but the rewards always outweigh the price.
Verse Today
John 16:24New King James Version (NKJV)
24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Thursday Thought
It is Thursday and the week is slipping by quickly. Here is your thought for today. What is amazing is that with all the technology we have at our disposal to communicate with each other we still will not take the time to talk to others. Today take time to talk to your spouse, family and friends. Tell them you love them and what they mean to you. The greatest gift you can give each other is yourself. tell them before time ticks away and the opportunity fades away.

Wednesday Muse
It is the middle of the week and time flys by. Today your thought is this. The Kingdom of man is based on success and selfishness. Kingdom of God is based on selflessness and servant hood. Learn to be great in God's kingdom be a servant of all. Love is putting the needs of others before your own. True love is expressing love to others. This show true servanthood. Serve others in love and you are expressing God's kingdom.
Verse Today
John 14:13-14New International Version (NIV)
13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
John the Baptist
Matt 3:11-12
Today we are going to look at the courage of John the Baptist. John like all reformers and prophets of God took his role as enlightening and restraining force for God very personally. He would speak against the sins of Herod and Herodias. This act would ultimately cost him his life.
1. John stood up to Herod the King about his marriage to Herodias the former wife of his brother Phillip.
2. He stood up to Herod at the peril of his life which later on was forfeited.
3. He preached to Herod about the things of God and this upset Herod.
4. He spoke against the things the leaders of the Jews were doing.
5. He told the tax collectors not to steal anymore.
6. He told the Roman soldiers to extort from no one.
7. He spoke against other things that the King did. Herod was a despot but John was not afraid to speak against him. The lessons we learn is that we are the conscience of our world. We have been entrusted by God to speak on His behalf.

Verse Today
Matthew 21:22New International Version (NIV)
22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
John and Jesus
John 1:26-27
Today we are looking at John the Baptist’s picture of who Jesus Christ is. John saw Jesus as a particular person with a particular purpose.
1. John saw Jesus as more powerful than he.
2. He knew that he was not even worthy to untie Jesus shoes.
3. He knew that Jesus would soon baptise His followers with the Holy Spirit and fire.
4. Jesus is ready to gather His wheat in His barn and the chaff will be burned away.
5. Jesus is the one who is the Christ and John was going to have the privilege of Baptising Him, yet John knew he was unworthy. Today as a disciple of Christ you need to have a clear understanding of who Jesus is and your role in the Kingdom. If you are not familiar with your role, ask the Lord and He will show you His will and plan for your life.
Tuesday Thought
It is the second day of the week and so today here is your thought. The Kingdom of man is based on bias, self and personal gain. The Kingdom of God is based on love acceptance and forgiveness. So today choose whose kingdom you will follow and be a part of. Remember thought each one lead to a certain place. So choose wisely.

Lessons from Isaac
Intro: Today we are learning about Isaac. He was the promised son of Abraham and
Sarah. He was born to them in their old
age. His name means laughter. Talk about Sarah hearing the new that she
was going to be a mom at ninety. She
laughed and so would you.
We are going to look at
seven things that stood out in Isaac`s life.
1. He was
submissive. He allowed his father to
bind him on Mt Moriah. Talk about the
Ram sticking his head in a thicket.
2. He was a man who was reflective and love to think things
through. In Gen 24:65, he was walking
through a field doing this when he met Rebekah.
3. He was affectionate.
In Gen 24, he brought Rebekah into his tent and married her. He loved Rebekah. Affection and love are characteristics of
those who love the Lord.
4. He continued his father sin. When he was Philistia he told the inhabitants
there Rebekah was his sister. Just like
his dad had. We need to emulate those
characteristics in our families which are good and cut off the ones that are
bad.
5. He was peaceable in Gen 26:20-22 we have Isaac digging
three wells because instead of quarreling with the inhabitants of the land he
chose the path of peace. When you think
you have your rights then you quarrel and fight but if you remember that you
are a pilgrim passing through, a sojourner and that this world is not your home
you have a more peaceable attitude and reaction when wronged.
6. He was a man of prayer. In Gen 26:25, you find Isaac continuing his
father’s habit of building altars and calling on the name of the Lord. Isaac was aware that he needed God’s help in
his day to day affairs.
7. Lastly he was a man of faith. In Heb 11:20 it states that Isaac blessed
both Jacob and Esau in regards to their future.
He saw their future and what they would become. God wants you to be a person of faith. To know yours and your families future. Men of faith walk with God daily. Close with professor who had a strong faith
and student who wanted to learn from him.
Wise Saying
The contrast between the Kingdoms of man and God
are apparent. Man`s kingdom is about self and God`s Kingdom is about
others.
Prepare the Way
Matt 3:2-12
John had the task of preparing the people for the way of the Lord. The outward sign of the inward impact of His message was that people were baptised. This showed that they had truly repented of their sins. Water baptism was not unique to John or the church. It was a practice that was done for gentile converts to Judaism. John’s application was to show other that those who were baptised were truly sorry for their sins.
1. John did not baptise the Sadducees or the Pharisees because they were doing it for the praise of men.
2. He came to tell all of Jesus and How He was going to baptise people with the Holy Spirit and fire.
3. He told how Jesus was going to judge and burn away from motives.
4. All men who see God’s salvation have to come through Jesus Christ.
5. He taught that men should share their belongings with others.
6. John taught the tax collectors that they should be fair and not be dishonest with the taxes that they collect.
7. He told the soldiers to be content with their pay and not to be extorters.
8. He preached good news to people.
Verse Today
Psalm 37:4New International Version (NIV)
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Monday Muse
It is the beginning of the week and here is something to think about. The contrast between the Kingdoms of man and God are apparent. Man`s kingdom is about self and God`s Kingdom is about others. Today and fulfill God's kingdom by investing and touching someone else with love. Love shows you are a disciple of Christ.

Friday Thought
It is the weekend and here is something to consider. Irony is when you see a couple in a booth at a restaurant texting each other instead of talking. So today talk and show love to those you are in relationship. True love is looking into the face of someone and talking to them from your heart.
wise Saying

24 Gracious words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Jesus of Nazareth
Luke 2:50-51
Jesus goes back to Nazareth and for some 18 years very is little known about how He lived. We know that He grew up and after His father died He operated the carpenter business until the time of His ministry was to start. Jesus was part of a large family at five boys and he had sisters as well. As the oldest it would have been His responsibility to take care of the family after His father died. That is probably one of the reasons why He did not start His ministry until 30.
1. Jesus spent some 18 years waiting for the go ahead of the plan and purpose God had for Him.
2. He grew in grace and favour with God and man. These were years of preparation. Often waiting is providential discipline for those a great task has been given.
3. It must have been hard but Jesus was willing to wait. We must learn to do the same. Waiting often keeps us from trouble and in the will of God.

Jesus at Temple
Luke 2:41-50
Today we see Jesus going to Jerusalem with His parents to the Passover feast when he was twelve. When it was time to leave He stayed in Jerusalem at the temple. His parents did not realize that He was not with them until they were well on their way. In those days they travelled in large groups for protection. His parents returned to Jerusalem and it took them three days to find Jesus. When they asked Jesus why He was there he replied, “Where else would I be but in my Father’s house.” Even then Jesus understood his mission and purpose. Jesus went back to Nazareth and obeyed His parents from then on.
1. We find out that Jesus was dedicated to the Jewish faith.
2. That people in those days travelled in large groups for protection.
3. Jesus was a boy that was not afraid to ask questions of leaders and we should not either.
4. Even as a boy Jesus amazed people with His wisdom and understanding.
5. Even as a boy Jesus knew that God was His father and His purpose in life.
6. Jesus was a role model and model child. He honoured and obeyed His parents. Excellent lessons for us to learn today.

Wise Saying
It has
been said that actions speak louder than words so when you kiss your spouse
when you leave for work. You are saying, “I love you, I miss you

Daily Bible Study
Matt 2:19-23
When Herod died, Joseph and Mary were told in a dream that Herod was dead and they could go back to Palestine. They did not settle in Judea because Herod’s son so they settled in Nazareth to fulfill another scripture.
1. God uses many forms of interpretation to get His message to His people He used a dream for Joseph. Three times this would happen.
2. Jesus was called a Nazarene to fulfill scripture. God is very concerned about your protection and fulfilling His plan and purposes for your life.
Wise Saying
The grace of God is amazing, it takes the vilest
of sinners and makes them a trophy of God’s love.
God's grace
It is the middle of the week and here is your thought. The grace of God is amazing, it takes the vilest of sinners and makes them a trophy of God’s love. Grace means simply. God's riches at Christ's expense. Let the full benefits of salvation be released in your life today and enjoy being a child of God. It all came because of grace.

Prove all things
Oct 21, 2007 – Prove
All Things.- 1 John 4:1-3
Intro: Today in 1
John we will be looking how important it is to prove all things and not just
believe everything you hear, even if someone famous or trustworthy says
it. In fact don’t believe everything I say
unless it can be backed up by scripture.
Beloved , do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether
they are from God for many false prophets
have gone forth into the world.
1. John says, don’t
believe every spirit but test them to see if they are from God. Talk
about the lady who told me once she was only to
listen to me about spiritual things.
In John’s day
false teaching was prevalent as it is today.
The difference is that in
John’s time the Bible
was not completely written. Today it
is. Christian thought and
Doctrine was
still being formed. Today, we have the
Bible as our standard of faith
And practice. In this church we believe and take the Bible
literally unless otherwise
Indicated by
scripture.
2. In John’s day the
two false teaching groups were the Gnostics and the Judaizers.
Today it is the
cults, liberal churches and even some Pentecostal type groups.
3. John gives sound advice here. Test every spirit. Several false religions and cults,
Started with people
receiving a message from a so called angel.
Paul states in 2 Cor
11:14, that satan can
transform himself into an angel of light. Truth never fears a
test or avoids
it. .
4. Here is how you
test spirits
a. They must say that Jesus has
come in the flesh. 1 John 4:2
b. Their words must agree with
the word of God.
c. What they say must lift up
and exalt Jesus Christ.
d. Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection and the
redemption it brings must be the
central focus.
e. What is said does not in any
way diminish Jesus’ divinity or humanity.
He is the
perfect union of God and man.
5. Finis Dake who
authored the Dake’s Bible says there are Seven ways to test false
Spirits or prophets.
a. Their confession of Jesus
Christ. 1 John 4:3
b. Their relationship to the
world. James 4:4, 1 John 2:15-17 &
4:5
c. How they receive
Christianity. 1 John 4:6
d. Their attitude towards the
commandments of God. John 14:15, 1 John
3:20-24 &
4:6
e. Love for the Brethren. John 13:34-35, 15:12-15, 1 John 3:11-16,
& 4:7-21
f. The indwelling Holy
Spirit. 1 John 4:4-6
g. The Word of God. 2 Cor 4:4, 1 Tim 3:16, 1 John 4:6 & 5:10
By this know the Spirit of God, every spirit which confesses that Jesus
Christ has come in the flesh is from God.
1. The
first way to know truth is by the Spirit of God. This means you must be born
again. The Bible is a closed book without the Spirit
of God. John stated in John
16:13-14, the Holy
Spirit will guide us into all truth.
Whatever He hears He will
speak and tell us things
which are to come. He will glorify Jesus
Christ and take
what is Jesus’ and declare it unto us. I love the fact that God does not want to
keep
us in the dark about
what He is doing. The Holy Spirit will
always, lift up, exalt and
point to
Christ. He has been sent by Christ so we
would not be alone. He is our
comforter, helper and
guide.
2. John believed
that Jesus Christ was the Logos. The perfect
union of God and man.
100% God and 10% man. The God Man.
God with a face. John spoke about the
Divinity of
Christ and his humanity. Jesus
Christ to John was the Alpha and Omega
of Christian truth, thought,
and belief..
3. In John 1:1
&14, John states that in the beginning was the Word, He was with God
And was God. Then He became flesh and dwelt among
mankind. We beheld His
Glory, the only
begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. To John , Jesus was
The Son of God, who dwelt
with the Father from the beginning. The
true essence
And glory of God.
Jesus Christ is the perfect union of man and God. The perfect
union of The Father and the
Son.
And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in
the flesh is not from God and this is the antichrist which you heard is coming
and is now already in the world.
1. John says if a
spirit does not say that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, it is not of
God. John is a strong believer in Jesus’
incarnation. Jesus was born of the
virgin
Mary, he lived 33
years, he suffered, died and rose again.
He possesses a new body
Made of flesh and
bones. C.S. Lewis wrote. Jesus Christ claim to be God and his
Resurrection
proved it.
2. The Docetic and
Cerinthian Gnostics denied Jesus Christ’s humanity. Today many
deny Jesus’
deity. They believe He was a good man, a
moral teacher, a prophet but
not God. John believed and knew Jesus was God with a
face. He saw the transformed
and resurrected
Jesus Christ. Jesus’ humanity,
enfleshment and incarnation is central
to the
gospel. Talk about the sin problem.
3. John believed any teaching,
so called truth or religious remark that contradicted
Christ’s humanity
was false and not from God. It was from
the antichrist. Remember
When I taught
about the antichrist, it is a spirit, a person and satanic
philosophy or
Teaching that always attacks
who Jesus is. Sometimes it is
subtle other times it is
Blatant.
4. John says you
heard it is coming but you also must know it is already here. From
John’s days to
ours there are those that are preparing the world for the visible anti-
Christ. This spirit tries to draw people away from
Jesus Christ and take that which
Belongs to Him alone and
bestow it on an imitator or fraud.
Finis Dake writes,
“Every spirit
that inspires a teacher to deny Christ’s incarnation, passion, death,
Bodily
resurrection and bodily ascension to heaven is not of God and is antichrist.
Tuesday Thought
It is the second day of the week and here is your thought. Two of God greatest gifts are, eternal and abundant life. The irony of life is that they are being offered freely everyday and so few are accepting them. Today live and present this through your life to others. YOu can be an ambassador of love to your world. You have these qualities to change others for the glory of God. Show eternal and abundant life through your example. Be a blessing.

Wise Saying
What is amazing is that we say we believe in
Christian unity as long as it agrees with my perspective.
Joseph saves Jesus
Matt 2:13—18
Jesus was taken by His parents to Egypt because they were warned in a dream that Herod would try to kill Jesus. They went down to Egypt and stayed there until he died. Herod sent troops to Bethlehem and all the children under two years were killed. Many cried that day.
1. God will always keep His anointed from danger and that includes us.
2. The enemy may roar around us but the angels of the Lord camp around us.
3. The Lord always confirms and fulfills His word.
4. There will be weeping and mourning for those who die but there is comfort for those who mourn.

Anna and Simoen
Luke 2:22-38
Simeon and Anna were two dear old saints who were righteous and devout.. Simeon had been told by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until he saw the Messiah. When he saw the child he took him in his arms and gave a prophecy over Jesus. Anna saw Jesus and spoke of His redemption. Mary and Joseph marvelled over this and went to Nazareth.
Simeon’s Prophecy:
1. The Holy Spirit was working in the lives of the Old Testament saints.
2. The Holy Spirit moved him to find the Christ who God had promised to let him see before he died. God always keeps His promises.
3. The Lord always completes His task before he dismisses His servants.
4. The Lord prepares and gives salvation to His people.
5. Jesus is the light and revelation to the gentiles and the glory of God to the people of Israel.
6. Jesus is the rising and falling of the nation of Israel.
7. Jesus will reveal the thoughts of many hearts even His family.
Anna said that Jesus is the redemption of all the people. He is the grace and wisdom of God.
