Proverb of Steel

The wise know death is a doorway to hope the foolish see death as a hole to despair.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:128New American Standard Bible (NASB)

128 Therefore I esteem right all Your precepts concerning everything,
hate every false way.

Greatness define

Greatness define – Matt 18:1-35, Mark 9:33-50 & Luke 9:46-62

Jesus’ disciples were struggling what greatness was, what love is and what patience should be.  Over the next two days because of the importance of these subjects we will look at them extensively.

1.       If you want to be great in the Kingdom, you have to come as a little child.  We must be willing to humble ourselves and become like little children.  If we welcome people of child like faith and love and work with children we are welcoming Jesus.
2.       There will terrible judgment if we cause one little child to spiritually or physically fall.
3.       We must be careful not to do things that will cause us to sin.  Purity brings power.  We are to get rid of anything that will keep us from the Kingdom.
4.       Those who have child like faith will see the Father.  The Lord is always seeking lost sheep.
5.       If a brother or sister sin against you, go to them alone and if they do not repent the next step is to take something with you that you both trust.  If there is still resolution to your impasse take two or three witnesses you both trust to resolve the matter.   If there is still no solution bring It before the church.  If there is still no resolution than you will have to break fellowship.
6.       This last point is so powerful.  What ever is bound on earth is bound and heaven and whatever is loosed  on earth is loosed in heaven.  Also if two or three touch anything on earth it shall be done for us in heaven.  This of course is dealing with  prayer and how powerful united prayer is.  Clearly these principles we have shared today were and are still revolutionary.

Doorway of hope.

Here is your thought for this weekend.  The wise know death is a doorway to hope the foolish see death as a hole to despair.  There is on reality each one of us is given this day so let us use it wisely and for the Lord.

Proverb of Steel

The reality for the righteous is that right now we are limited to time, space, mater and motion but one day we will have none of those limitations but will but will be eternally with God.
 Paying Taxes – Matt 17:24-27

Jesus arrives at Capernaum and the collectors of the temple tax came to Peter and asked him if Jesus paid temple taxes.  Peter said, “Yes,” and then went into the house.  Jesus asked Peter, if kings of the earth collect taxes from their sons or from others.  Peter said, “Others.”  Jesus then told him to go to the lake  and catch a fish and in it he would find enough to pray both Peter’s and Jesus’ temple tax.

1.       Jesus saw that Peter answered a question without thinking and she let him off the hook by telling him to go and do what he did best, fish.  He would catch a fish and in its mouth would be enough to take care of the need.
2.       Jesus will always use our natural skills and abilities first when we are called to do something for Him.
3.       Jesus taught here that the people of God are not to offend the authorities or bring shame to His name by not paying our taxes.    This helps insure that we will live a quiet and peaceful life.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:125New International Version (NIV)

125 I am your servant; give me discernment
that I may understand your statutes.

No Limits

Here is your thought for the middle of the week.  The reality for the righteous is that right now we are limited to time, space, mater and motion but one day we will have none of those limitations but will but will be eternally with God.  What a day that will be when we see Jesus and live in victory and without limitations.  Enjoy today but prepare for eternity.

Proverb of Steel

The wise know that the treasures of eternity determined the choices of the present

A Demon possessed by healed

A Demon possessed by healed - Mark 9:14-29

Yesterday we see Jesus coming off the mountain and having to deal immediately with a demon possessed boy.  His father had brought the boy to Jesus’ disciples but they could not cast the demon out because of the unbelief of the crowd.  Today we will look at four other lessons we can learn from this passage.

1.       Jesus during this account reveals that He is going to die and be raised to life.  This caused His disciples to be filled with grief.  This is because He had commented that He would not be with them much longer.  The lessons they would learn would have to learn quickly.
2.       Jesus had helped the father of the child when he cried out, “Lord help me in my unbelief.”  Doubt and unbelief can hinder the work of God but if we are honest with the Lord He will help us overcome them.
3.       Jesus reveals here as well that some demonic forces cannot be driven out except through fasting and prayer.  These are keys to spiritual victory.
4.       When Jesus told His disciple that He was going to die and rise again it was hard for them to grasp this truth.  Even in Galilee Jesus was paving the way for His disciples to know the extent and end of His mission.  God is so faithful in preparing us for each step of our journey of life.  Let us not allow unbelief or lack of faith stop it.  If necessary let us have extended times of fasting and prayer to help us clearly discern God’s will for our lives.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:123-124New International Version (NIV)

123 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation,
    looking for your righteous promise.
124 Deal with your servant according to your love
    and teach me your decrees.

Teasures of eternity

Here is your thought for today. The wise know that the treasures of eternity determined the choices of the present.  So keep you mind on Christ and know that his world will pass away.  Only the eternal last.  Based  the course of this day on eternity and you will have the right perspective in all you do.

Proverb of Steel

The fool thinks they have all time in the world, the wise know that there are two days, today and that day we stand before the Lord and give an account of our lives.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:122

122 Ensure your servant’s well-being;
do not let the arrogant oppress me.

The Epiletic is Healed.

 The Epiletic is Healed. – Matt 17:14-21, Mark 9:14-29 & Luke 9:37-43

The four of them came down the mountain and were ,met by a large crowd.  A man came to Jesus to heal his son who was demon possessed.  He told Jesus that His disciples had tried to drive out the demon with success.  Jesus became angry with the situation.  He then had the child brought to Him and He drove the demon out.  He then gave them this teaching.

1.       This child had a demon that caused him to throw himself into fire and water.  Those who suffer from Epilepsy can suffer greatly.  Not all those who have this condition are demon possessed so it is important to walk with discernment.
2.       The disciples could not drive out the demon because of the unbelief of the people.  Jesus in frustration asked how long He to be with them before they would believe.
3.       Jesus cast out the demon and then when asked why the disciples could not He told them it was because they lacked faith.  If we have the faith as large as a mustard seed we can say to any mountain of any size to much and it will.  Faith makes the impossible possible.  As you go through out this day, walk by faith and not by sight and remember the Lord is with you.

Two days

Here is a powerful thought to start out your weak. The fool thinks they have all time in the world, the wise know that there are two days, today and that day we stand before the Lord and give an account of our lives.  Are you ready for today and that day?

Proverb of Steel

The wise know that eternal rewards wait for them who are willing to sacrifice the temporal and the perishable now.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:121-128The Message (MSG)

121-128 I stood up for justice and the right;
don’t leave me to the mercy of my oppressors.

The Transfiguration

The Transfiguration - Matt 17:1-13

Jesus was changed before His disciples .  They heard the Father’s voice saying that Jesus was His beloved Son in whom He was well pleased.

1.       The Father spoke to the three disciples and told them to listen to Jesus and that He was well pleased with Jesus.
2.       They were afraid because the had never seen anything like this before.  The reality of who Jesus was really hit home that day.  When Jesus came to them is assured them and then everything was alright.
3.       They were told not to tell anyone until Jesus was raised from the dead.  Jesus told them that Elijah came first, he had come in the guise of John the Baptist.  Jesus also told them that He would suffer much.  This was a plain fact and a preparation for what was about to come.

Aim for eternity

As we head into the weekend here is your thought.  The wise know that eternal rewards wait for them who are willing to sacrifice the temporal and the perishable now.  So aim for the eternal where nothing can rob, eat or rust.  Keep your eyes on the Lord and His inheritance for your life.

The Transfiguration

 The Transfiguration – Matt 17:1-13, Mark 9:2-13 & Luke 9:28-36

Jesus took His disciples, Peter, James and John up to a high mountain where before their eyes He changed and His appearance was like the sun.  Moses and Elijah appeared with Him and then they began to talk.  Peter spoke up and said that it was good that the disciples were there because they could build three shelters.  One for each one of the men.  Then they heard a voice from heaven confirming that Jesus was the Son of God and that the Father was well pleased with Him.  The voice then told the disciples that disciples should  listen to Jesus.  The all of a sudden no one was there are Jesus came to His disciples and they were amazed and He told them not to tell anyone about this until after He had risen from the dead.  Over the next two days we will learn the following truths from this account.

1.       Jesus when He was on the mountain became His pre-incarnate self.  His face shone like the sun and His clothes were pure white.  He came in similar form to Paul and John.
2.       The appearing of Moses and Elijah is significant.  Moses represented the law and Elijah represented the prophets.  Jesus came to fulfill both the law and the prophets.
3.       Peter wanted to build three shelters for the three of them.  People always want something visible to worship.  Peter is showing that mankind still wants to worship the creature, a place or time period instead of the creator.  A lesson we can learn here that has tempting as it is the have a place of remembrance where God met with you, do not camp there but when you have learned your lessons there, move on and
Go the the next place God has for you.

Proverb of Steel

The foolish sin short term and gain long term separation from God.  The wise know that short term costs result in long term gains in eternity.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:117King James Version (KJV)

117 Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.

Long Term View

Today our thought is simple.  The foolish sin short term and gain long term separation from God.  The wise know that short term costs result in long term gains in eternity.  Keep the long tern view.

Proverb of Steel

The Kingdom of God is Promised.

The Kingdom of God is Promised.

Jesus promises that His Kingdom is coming and His will shall be done.  People on the day of Christ coming will be rewarded for what they have done.  In the day of Christ’s coming man will stand in victory the sad part is that many who think they will stand won’t  The promise is that those who endure to the end will see His Kingdom come in great power and glory.  So as the day of His appearing hastens the challenge we face is to stay focused and directed.  We must remember how we finish our race is more important than how we start.  Let us finish well and receive the victor’s crown of righteousness.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:116New International Version - UK (NIVUK)

116 Sustain me, my God, according to your promise, and I shall live;
do not let my hopes be dashed.

Bigger View

Here is your thought today.  The man who only relates to what he sees, tastes, touches, smells and hears misses the fact that what he cannot see is more real in the long view of things.  Keep your eyes on eternity and not just on this life.  Eternity is longer.

Proverb of Steel

The wise man knows that this life is a dress rehearsal for the play of eternity.

Jesus tells of His death

Jesus tells of His death – Matt 16:21-26, Mark 8:31-37 & Luke 9:22-25

Jesus warns His disciples to not tell anyone of this event until after He has risen from the dead.  Jesus then tells of His death and the cost that must be made to be His followers.

1.       Jesus would suffer much at the hands of the priest, scribes and elders.  He would die and then rise on the third day.
2.       If anyone wants to follow Christ, they must be willing to deny themselves, pick up their cross and follow Him.’
3.       Whoever wants to save their own life will lose it but the one that loses their life for Christ’s sake will find it.  If we are ashamed of Christ he will be ashamed of us.
4.       Jesus is coming back in the glory of His angels and at this time all things shall be revealed.  Jesus said that some who were standing in that place would not taste death.
5.       Peter tried to rebuke Jesus but Jesus saw it was satan and Peter had the mind of men and not the mind of Christ.  Jesus wants all human kind to speak on His behalf in this terrible time.
6.       Jesus said that when He comes back, people will be rewarded for all the things they done.  All awhile we must be doing what Jesus wants us to do.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:115New International Version - UK (NIVUK)

115 Away from me, you evildoers,
that I may keep the commands of my God!

Play of eternity

It was William Shakespeare who said that life is a play and all people were merely players.  Here is your thought for today.  The wise man knows that this life is a dress rehearsal for the play of eternity.  So do not live your life only for things that pass away.  Live for the Lord, live in the light of eternity and be wise.

Proverb of Steel

Never allow your  real love for God  to be lost in the pursuit of cheap substitutes.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:114King James Version (KJV)

114 Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.

Peter’s Confession

Peter’s Confession – Matt 16:13-20, Mark 8:27-30 & Luke 9:18-21

Jesus went from Bethsaida to Caesarea Philippi.  On the way His disciples asked Him who He was.  One said that He was John the Baptist, another said that He was Elijah or one of the prophets.  Jesus then asked them who they thought He was.   Peter says, “You are the Messiah, the Christ.”   Jesus told Peter than God had revealed this truth to him.

1.        Many people know about Christ but they do not know Him.  We must come to the fact that He is the Christ and the Son of the Living God.
2.        This truth does not come from man it only comes from God.  The Holy Spirit draws us and the Father by His grace allows us to come into relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.
3.        When we come to Jesus we can become like a rock that hell can shake or move.
4.        Whatever we bind on earth is bond in heaven and whatever we loose on earth is loosed in heaven.
5.        Jesus as the Son of God and the Messiah comes into our hearts and the rest of our lives should follow to have this reality become life.

Cheap Substitutes

Here is your thought for a brand new weak.  Never allow your  real love for God  to be lost in the pursuit of cheap substitutes.  People often do because the cheap looks as good but mere looks will never compare for the real.

Proverb of Steel

The real paradox of conflict for the Christian is knowing you are destined for the next world and still have to live in this one.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:113King James Version (KJV)

113 I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.

Blind man healed and the disciples rebuked

Blind man healed and the disciples rebuked – Matt 6:5-12 & Mark 8:14-26

Jesus warned His disciples to be careful of the yeast of the Pharisees.  They thought He was rebuking them because they had forgotten to bring bread.  Jesus was again correcting them because they had the wrong ideas.  Jesus was telling them to be careful of the teachings of the Pharisees.

1.        Jesus called the disciples men of little faith because they did not know what he meant by the teaching of the Saduccees and the Pharisees.  They missed the point.  Jesus used every day stories to bring about a spiritual truth.
2.        They went to Bethsaida and a blind man was brought to Jesus.  He took him outside the village and spit on the man’s eyes and he saw men as trees walking.  Jesus then spit on his eyes once more and he saw all things clearly.
3.         Jesus took him out of the village so all the confusion and unbelief would be done away with.  Outside the village Jesus could concentrate on the man’s healing.
4.        Jesus had to touch this man twice probably because this man’s faith was not strong but as he saw things his faith increased.  Sometimes healing is also progressive.
5.        Jesus when He heals wants all to see and give glory to God.

Passing through

Today's thought is awesome.  The real paradox of conflict for the Christian is knowing you are destined for the next world and still have to live in this one.  You are a pilgrim passing through so keep you mind on Christ and on eternity.  Also try to get as many people to come with you as possible.  This makes you a blessing.

Proverb of Steel

Jesus was the only person who ever lived who could love the world and yet never lose any aspect of His holiness.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:111King James Version (KJV)

111 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

The Pharisees Increase attack

The Pharisees Increase attack – Matt 16:1-4 & Matt 8:10-13

Jesus went to Magdala and here He ran into the Pharisees and they wanted a sign from heaven.  This was a test and Jesus saw through it and refuse to give them a sign.  He got back into the boat and went across the lake.

1.        Jesus taught them that they can not even see the signs of the times.  Here they have the Son of God in their midst and they cannot even see it,
2.        He called them a wicked and adulterous generation and the only sign they were going to get was the sign of Jonah.  Let us see the signs of the Lord in our midst and not miss when we have the Lord moving in our lives and situation.

To be like Jesus

There is an old hymn that says, to be like Jesus, that is all I ask.  Jesus was the only person who ever lived who could love the world and yet never lose any aspect of His holiness.  As ambassadors of Jesus Christ in our world we should try to live like Jesus.  This is done by allowing the Holy Spirit to touch all aspects of our lives.  Today submit to the Lord and let Him touch your world through your life.

4000 fed

4000 fed – Matt 15:32-39 & Mark 8:1-9

It was in the area of Decapolis not long after Jesus healed the dumb man that people began to run short of food.  Jesus felt sorry for them as He did when He feed the 5000.  So He again fed them.  The people ate and were satisfied by what Jesus gave them.

1.        Jesus as the bread of life not only feeds the spiritual but also feeds the physical man.  Jesus wants to meet the needs of people in the physical realm as well.
2.        He had compassion on the people.  They had been with him for more than three days.  When you have been with the Lord for a time He will always take care of all your needs.
3.        Jesus did not want them to go away hungry so with 7 loaves He feed 4000 men not including the women and children.
4.        Jesus as the bread of life will always satisfy the hungry.  There is an invitation today to be fed and your thirst quenched by coming to Jesus.

Proverb of Steel

The wise know the deeper issues of life are motives, attitudes and values.  Not riches, popularity, power or status.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:109New International Version (NIV)

109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands,
I will not forget your law.

Deeper meaning

Here is your thought for today.  The wise know the deeper issues of life are motives, attitudes and values.  Not riches, popularity, power or status.  So do not let these keep from true wisdom and life.

Afflicted Healed

Afflicted Healed – Matt 15:15:29-31 & Mark 7:31-37

Jesus left the area of Tyre and went up to the area of Galilee and many people followed Him.  They brought to Him people that were afflicted by many diseases and He healed them all.  The people praised God for what they saw.  Nothing like this had ever happened before in Israel.  The people brought a dumb man to Jesus.  This man could hardly speak because he was deaf.  Jesus took this man and put His fingers in the man’s ears and said, “Open up,” and immediately his ears were opened up.  People were amazed because Jesus could make to deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.

1.        The people knew that Jesus was the only one who could heal so they brought this man to Jesus.  Jesus was moved by love and compassion to heal this man.
2.        Jesus believed in touching people to heal them.  This was an affliction that had to be rebuked.
3.        The people were overwhelmed and amazed by what Jesus did.  Hr does everything well.  Jesus is the man of miracles.  So whatever you need today come to Him and get your miracle,

Proverb of Steel

The wise knows that the world only offers fools gold and the Kingdom of God offers gold that lasts for eternity.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:108King James Version (KJV)

108 Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me thy judgments.

Real Gold

Here is your thought for the new week.  The wise knows that the world only offers fools gold and the Kingdom of God offers gold that lasts for eternity.  Those who are wise know the difference.  Are you wise?

Proverb of Steel

Who is the Lord and master of our lives is eventually who we will look and act like.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:106New International Version (NIV)

106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it,
that I will follow your righteous laws.

Aborted Retirement

Aborted Retirement – Matt 15:2`-28 & Mark 7:24-30

Jesus left Capernaum and went off to Tyre and Sidon and even there people came to Him.  A Greek woman came to Him and she asked Jesus to heal her daughter.  Jesus told her that He had come for the lost sheep of Israel.  The woman gave Him an answer He was not expecting.  She told Him that even the dogs under the table got crumbs.  She marvelled Jesus with her faith and her daughter was made whole.

1.        Jesus had come primarily for the people of Israel.  He ministered to them but He was willing to have mercy on people who the Jews considered no more than dogs.
2.        Jesus was the only one who could set that woman’s child free and she knew it. So she pressed Jesus on her child’s behalf.
3.        Jesus was not trying to send her away or to be prejudiced, He wanted to see if this woman had faith.  She told Him that even a dog such as herself should be allowed to eat the crumbs under the table of the Jews.
4.        Jesus saw that she had faith and He granted the request she asked.  Her request was met that very hour.  All Jesus wants is to find out if we have faith and believe and He will grant our request quickly for the glory of God,

Awesome thought

It is the weekend and this is an awesome and scary thought.  Who is the Lord and master of our lives is eventually who we will look and act like.  So let the Lord become your master and in time you will look like Him in how you live and this will touch your world for good and with love.

Proverb of Steel

Only through the power and life in the Spirit can you live a holy life in an unholy world.

True Teaching

True Teaching – Matt 15:1-20 & Mark 7:1-23

Yesterday we learn how the Pharisees had perverted the word of God for their own purpose.  That even happens today with the cults.  They like one aspect of the gospel but not another or they turn Jesus into a relative of someone or Jesus into a created being.  Jesus would straighten out many truths,

1.        Jesus taught it is not what goes into a person that makes them unclean but it is what comes out of them that makes them unclean.  Food goes into the body and waste comes out.
2.        What makes a person unclean is their vile tongue.  It is what comes from the heart that makes a person unclean.  The mouth only speaks what the heart is full of.  Sexual immorality, theft, murder, vice, adultery, greed deceit, envy slander, lewdness, arrogance and folly.  All these make a person unclean.
3.        Men seem to look at their own and traditions first.  We have to be very careful that we do not put church traditions before the commands of God.
4.        There is one thing that Jesus could not stand and that was a hypocrite.  Jesus called the Pharisees, blind guides who were leading people down to death.

Verse Today

Psalm 119:105New International Version (NIV)

×  Nun

105 Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.
